SUBJECT: Request for a certificate of appropriateness to allow a 4' tall
wire fence in the front yard

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends denial of this request.
Marco and Steffani Carrillo have applied for a certificate of
appropriateness (CA) to allow a 4' tall wire fence in the front yard of
their home. The fence was constructed without a certificate of
appropriateness. Planning staff notified the property owners that
they must apply for a CA. The property is located at 1791 North.
The Historic District regulations state that a fence in a front or
corner side yard must be constructed of wrought iron, wood or brick.
In April, 2006, a fence to be constructed of similar materials was
proposed for a house in the 2500 Block of North but it was
withdrawn by the applicant.
The house is listed in the 1990 SPARE Beaumont survey. SPARE
states that the house was built c. 1922 and is of the Vernacular
Craftsman style. The house is typical of middle class housing built in
Beaumont in the 1920-30's.
Exhibit is attached.
