SUBJECT: Request for a certificate of appropriateness to allow the
replacement of windows

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends denial.
Vanessa and Napoleon Williams, the property owners, have a
requested a certificate of appropriateness to allow the replacement of
the existing 6 over 6 windows with 6 over 6 bronze aluminum frame
windows on the first floor of the house and 4 over 4 bronze aluminum
frame windows on the second story. The property is located at
2230 Hazel.
Sec. 30-21.2 of the Zoning Ordinance states that the frames of
windows should be trimmed in a manner typical of the style of the
building. The house is listed in the 1990 SPARE Beaumont Survey.
SPARE states that the Colonial Revival style house was built c. 1928
and is a good example of middle class housing built in Beaumont after
the second Spindletop boom.
The bronze colored frames are not in keeping with the style of the
house.
Exhibit is attached.
