FROM: Stephen C. Richardson, Planning Manager
SUBJECT: Request for a certificate of appropriateness to allow the construction
of a carport.
FILE: CA-1846
NOTE: This item was denied by the Historic Landmark Commission on
July 12, 2010. Richard Ferchak, the property owner, was
unable to attend that meeting. He has requested that
this item be placed back on the agenda so that he can
be present.
STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends denial.
Richard Ferchak is requesting permission to construct a carport in his rear
yard at 2369 Ashley. The carport will have 8" cypress posts painted to
match the house and a flat metal roof.
Although the carport would be located in the rear yard, it will be visible
from Ashley, especially since there is no fence along the east property
line to help shield it. Historically, carports with metal roofs that could
not be screened entirely from an abutting street have not been approved.
Section 30-21.2(g)1m(i) states:
Roof materials and colors must complement the style and overall color scheme of the
building or structure.
and (iv) states:
The degree and direction of roof slope and pitch must be typical of the style and period of
the main building . . .
A structure that complements the style and slope of the existing structures
using appropriate materials would be necessary.
Exhibits are attached.
