SUBJECT: Request for a certificate of appropriateness to allow the demolition
of a substandard structure

The Planning Manager recommends approval.
Pam Loiacano, City of Beaumont Demolition Coordinator, has applied for a
certificate of appropriateness to allow the demolition of a substandard
structure at 2265 Laurel.
Ms. Loiacano states that the structure was tagged as substandard on May
3, 2010 The owner, Mr. Ingram, has signed a demolition consent form for
the City to demolish this structure. The structure has 50% or more damage
of non-supporting members and 33% or more damage of the supporting members.
Ms. Loiacano states that the structure is not suitable for rehabilitation.
The property is located in the 1990 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states
that the house was built pre-1920 and is of the Vernacular Craftsman style.
The house is typical of middle class housing built in Beaumont after the
first Spindletop boom.
