SUBJECT: Request for a certificate of appropriateness to allow a 6' tall
chain link fence

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of the chain link fence
along the north (rear) property line and along the east and west
property lines up to the front of the house.
Raul Barajas, the property owner, has applied for a certificate of
appropriateness to allow a 6' tall black chain link fence along the
north, east and west property lines. The property is located at 2560
Smart.
A 4' tall chain link fence exists around the property . The property
owner would like to replace the 4' tall chain link fence with a 6' tall
wrought iron fence along the front of the property and a 6' tall
black chain link fence along the other three sides of the property.
Staff has approved the 6' tall wrought iron fence along the front of
the property. Since the property owner wishes to increase the height
of the chain link fence, it will require the approval of the Historic
Landmark Commission.
The Historic District Regulations state that chain link fences are
permitted only in back yards and must not be visible from abutting
streets. However, the ordinance does allow for discretion when the
absence of said fence poses a significant hazard to life or property.
Exhibit is attached.
