SUBJECT: Request for a certificate of appropriateness to allow the painting
of a house

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends painting the trim white or cream.
Micaela Cruz has applied for a certificate of appropriateness to allow
the painting of a house at 2420 Rusk. Mr. Cruz has painted the
house two shades of blue. Paint samples will be provided at the
meeting.
In January, 2011, Anna Varela, Code Enforcement Officer, inspected
the property and found it to be in violation of painting the house
without first obtaining a certificate of appropriateness.
When considering paint colors, the Zoning Ordinance states that the
Historic Landmark Commission shall base its decision on the
appropriateness to and compatibility with the structure, block face
and the historic district.
The Planning Manager does not feel that the dark blue trim is
appropriate nor compatible to the block face. If the trim was painted
white, the Planning Manager feels that it would soften the blue on the
body of the house.
The house is not listed in the SPARE Beaumont survey.
