SUBJECT: Request for a certificate of appropriateness to allow a metal garage.
FILE: CA-2360
STAFF REPORT
Staff recommends denial of the request.
Mr. Eric Christensen has hired Ben Wilson to construct a metal garage at the rear of his
property at 2545 Hazel Street. The garage will be visible from Hazel Street and does not
meet ordinance requirements.
Section 28.03.018(g)(1)(A) states, “Accessory buildings are only permitted in the rear
yard and the interior side yard and must be compatible with the scale, shape, roof form,
materials, detailing, and color of the main building. Accessory buildings must have
pitched roofs. Prefabricated metal accessory buildings are permitted if they are
completely screened from view from any abutting street.”
The house is listed in the 1991 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states that the house
was built c. 1938. The house is listed as an example of middle class housing in
Beaumont in the 1930’s, and is of a Tudor Revival style.
Exhibits are attached.
