SUBJECT: A request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to remove windows, replace a
window with smaller windows and replace a front door that has side lights and a
transom window.
FILE: CA-2979
STAFF REPORT
Luis Rodriguez would like permission to keep changes made to his house at 2127 Broadway
Street. Work was completed without the benefit of a CA (Certificate of Appropriateness). The
applicant has reduced the number and size of windows around the house. Mr. Rodriguez
removed 4 windows, replacing them with one smaller window. Original windows were one over
one pane and the replacement is a six over six pane window. Additionally, he wants to replace
the front door and has provided four examples of doors, pending your approval. All of the
submitted choices appear to be appropriate for a Queen Ann Victorian house as demonstrated in
A Field Guide to American Houses (Virginia & Lee McAlester, 1984) pages 272-287. Please see
attached for door choices.
Staff recommends denial of the windows and approval of one of the doors.
The house is in the 1989 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states that the house was c.1900.
The house was listed as a good example of a local adaptation of the Queen Anne style and is
representative of middle class homes in Beaumont around the turn of the century.
Exhibits are attached.
