SUBJECT: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to install a storage building.
FILE: CA-2962
STAFF REPORT
Jose' and Linda Torres would like to install a storage building at the rear of their property located
at 2190 Pecos Street. A two (2) car garage was demolished, and the Torres's would like to
replace it with a small barn for storage purposes. The requested barn will not match the house.
The roof will be metal and the vertical siding would be painted a mustard color. Staff is not
opposed to a storage building constructed to match the house or the garage that was demolished,
but a barn is not suitable for this location. The property is a corner lot and the barn would be
fully visible from 6th Street.
Staff recommends denial of the request.
The house is in the 1990 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states that the house was built c.
1928 was of the Spanish Colonial Revival style. The house is listed as an example of middle
class housing built in the 1920's and 1930's in Beaumont.
Exhibits are attached.
