SUBJECT: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to change the exterior of a house
from brick to stucco.
FILE: CA-2948
STAFF REPORT
American BuyItNow Investments, L.L.C. would like to change the exterior of the house at 2435
Long Avenue from brick to stucco. The applicant would like to bring the structure up to code.
One item to be addressed is the failing brick on the exterior of the house. The applicant states
that stucco would hide the multiple cracks in the existing brick.
The house is primarily of the Colonial Revival style. As stated on pg. 324 of A Field Guide to
American Houses (Virginia & Lee McAlester, 1984), "Vernacular examples were generally of
wood before about 1920, with masonry progressively more common as veneering techniques
became widespread in the 1920s."
Staff recommends denial of the request, as stucco was not a commonly used material for
Colonial Revival structures.
The house is not listed in the SPARE Beaumont Survey.
Exhibits are attached.
