REGULAR MEETING
1) CA-2853: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace a tile roof with a mountain

Mrs. Josey presented the staff report. Alan and Priscilla Davenport would like to replace

their existing tile roof with architectural shingles. Mountain Slate is the color the applicant
has chosen for the shingles. The property is located at 2405 Pecos Street. Staff recommended
approval of the request.
The house is not listed in the SPARE Beaumont Survey.
Slides of the subject property were shown. Mr. Alan Davenport, 2405 Pecos Street addressed
the Commission. Mr. Davenport stated that he needed to make repairs needed to his leaking
roof and the roof is over a hundred years old. Chairman LaBiche stated he would like
to see the new roof. Mr. Davenport provided the Commission with a sample of the roof. Mr.
Davenport stated that by choosing that particular roof color, he felt it would keep the
integrity of the home. Commissioner LaBiche suggested to Mr. Davenport that a company in
Kansas makes a plastic roof similar to the roof he currently has on his home. Chairman
LaBiche also stated it would be a much more expensive roof than the composition roof he
has chosen, but it is another option that can be considered. Councilmember Jordan suggested
another type of roof he could use also. Discussion followed. Commissioner Broussard
suggested that Mr. Davenport could possibly sell the tiles that are currently on his roof.
Chairman LaBiche made a motion to approve the request for the Certificate of
Appropriateness to replace a tile roof with an architectural shingle roof, the color to be
mountain slate, with decorative ridge tiles and cornice pieces reinstalled. Commissioner
Makin seconded the motion. Motion to approve carried 9:0.
2) Historic District Code Enforcement Report
Mrs. Varela stated that she did not have a Code Enforcement report due to being out but if
there were any concerns to let her know. Discussion followed.
