FROM: Chris Boone, Director of Planning and Community Development
SUBJECT: A request to abandon approximately 140'x60' of Trinity Street.
FILE: 902 -OB
STAFF REPORT
Charles "Bo" H. Weinbaum, III, is requesting abandonment of the stub of Trinity Street
located next to his place of business at 740 Fannin Street. The property would be used
for parking as there is no thru access. Mr. Weinbaum states that the abandonment
would allow for improved loading and access to his bay door facing Trinity Street.
Entergy, has responded that they have facilities in this right-of-way and are in opposition
to the request. City of Beaumont Fire needs the right-of-way for access to the rear of the
adjoining structures in the event of a fire. Both have stated that an easement would not
meet their needs and that they are in opposition to the request.
Staff recommends denial of the request.
This item was sent to all interested parties.
Exhibits are attached.

After our discussion last week, I drove over to the locations. I then talked with the Assistant Fire
Marshal, Scott Wheat, and we feel that this abandonment could great hinder the access to fire
apparatus in the event of a fire in the warehouses located in that area. I also found concerns now with
fire hydrant encroachment and other issues we are now dealing with. At this time we do not believe it is
in the best interest of the fire department or building owners in that area.
Thank you
Joe B Condina II
Fire Marshal
Beaumont Fire/Rescue.
