FROM: Demi Laney, Planner I
SUBJECT: A request for a certificate of appropriateness to paint a house.
FILE: CA -3129
STAFF REPORT
William Eggert, property owner, is asking permission to paint the exterior of his home located at
2565 Louisiana Street. Samples of the paint and examples of the final outcome are located in
your packets and will be available for review at the meeting.
Per your approval, the color for the body of the house and garage will be SW2827 Colonial
Revival Stone. The color of the sawtooths, finials, the bands on the porch handrails and columns
will also be Colonial Revival Stone. The garage door and shutters color will be SW6104 Kaffee.
The front door and trim around the door will be SW2802 Rookwood Red. The body of the porch
columns and window awnings will be SW7005 Pure White color. The porch ceiling will be
painted SW6491 Open Air.
This home is categorized as a Folk Victorian house. Examples of this style of home are located
in A Field Guide to American Houses (McAlester et al., pg. 311). The color scheme proposed
seems appropriate for a home within this era.
Staff -recommends approval of Mr. Eggert's paint choices as submitted.
The house is in the 1977 and 1991 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states that the house was
built-in 1905. The house is an outstanding example of gingerbread detailing. These type homes
were common during the turn of the century in Beaumont, but few remain in Beaumont.
Exhibits are attached.
