ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING THE TAX
ROLL FOR THE CITY OF BEAUMONT;
ESTABLISHING A TAX RATE; PROVIDING FOR
LEVYING, ASSESSING AND COLLECTING OF AD
VALOREM TAXES FOR THE TAX YEAR 2019 (FY
2020); PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND
PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Appraisal District has furnished to the City of
Beaumont the certified tax roll for the City of Beaumont as of July 19, 2019 to be
$7,669,216,149.00; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the tax roll submitted by the Jefferson
County Appraisal District should be accepted and that a tax rate in the amount of $0.71
per each $100 of value for the tax year 2019 (FY 2020) should be established based upon
said roll; and,
WHEREAS, THIS TAX RATE WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE
AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE;
WHEREAS, THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 1.5
PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A
$100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $10.84;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
THAT the statements and findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are
hereby, in all things, approved and adopted.
Section 2.
That the tax roll submitted to the City Council by the Jefferson County Appraisal
District, a summary of which is attached as Exhibit "A", and showing the total net taxable
assessed value of all property within the City to be $7,669,216,149.00 is hereby approved
and accepted by the City of Beaumont.
Section 3.
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected for
the tax year 2019 (FY 2020), for municipal purposes only, an ad valorem tax rate of $0.71
on each $100 worth of property value located within the city limits of the City of Beaumont
made taxable by law, which said taxes, when collected, shall be for the purposes
hereinafter set forth as follows: V.
General Fund $0.49211/$100
Debt Service Fund $0.21789/$100
Section 4.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the
application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this
ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are
declared to be severable.
Section 5.
That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the
extent of the conflict only.
The meeting at which this ordinance was approved was in all things conducted in
strict compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code, Chapter
551.
