CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS
OF A SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT ON THE 17TH DAY OF JUNE, 1972, TO
DETERMINE WHETHER THE PROPOSED MINIMUM SALARY
OF $704.00 PER MONTH FOR FIREMEN AND POLICE-
MEN SHALL BE ADOPTED.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Beaumont, at
a regular session held on the 2nd day of May, 1972, enacted
an Ordinance calling an election to be held in the City of
Beaumont on the 13th day of June, 1972, and on the 23rd day
of May, 1972, the City Council of the City of Beaumont enacted
an Amendatory Ordinance changing the election date to June 17,
1972, to submit to the qualified electors the proposition of
whether the proposed minimum salary of $704.00 per month for
Firemen and Policemen should be adopted; and,
WHEREAS, notice of said election was duly given in
accordance with law, and returns thereof have been duly made
by the election officials, and having duly and regularly can-
vassed the returns of said election;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
That the City Council finds that there were cast at said
election 8,835 votes, and for the adoption of the proposed
minimum salary of $704.00 per month for Firemen and Policemen
there were cast 3,797 votes, and against the adoption of the
proposed minimum salary there were cast 5,009 votes; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of The City
of Beaumont that the proposition for the adoption of the minimum

at said election.
