Next am on the agenda concerned a project which has been underway for sometime to try to
determine a reasonably attractive common seal for the City of Beaumont. The City currently
has a key which has an emblematic type of reference to the City of Beaumont as well as the.
official stamp for the City of .Beaumont which is a star. A decal design has been placed on
City equipment which had the State of Texas and an Oilwell in the general area of Beaumont.
Mr. Hill explained that rather than having so many emblems for the City of Beaumont it was
anticipated that it might be more desirable to have a common seal or common identification
emblem. Mr. Hill stated that with the suggestion of the Mayor and the encouragement,of the
Council, a design had been prepared which was handed to the Mayor and Councilmen to view. He
stated that the nee and green colors'in the seal indicates the pertaining to
the IOW and the.water of Beaumont which is rich in resources and greenery and water. , In the
center part is a semblance of the water; there are seven tree-looking items which are essentially
there to indicate, seven being a significant number indicating growth and vitality, either
symbols of the gasoline type or petroleum industries as well as the trees in the City of Beau-
mont and this area. The sun depicting item indicates energy which is obviously an important
thing in this part of the country, as well as the beautiful weather in Beaumont which makes
the trees and everything grow. Mr. Hill continued that in taking the most advantageous parts
of Beaumont, this particular seal or emblem does summarize these, and indicate what Beaumont
is rich in, resource and vitality. This is the reason for the emblem and way it is presented.

thing that has to do with the City as a means of identification. Also, the City Seal which
is affixed to all documents. Decals which the Council took action on several months ago
have not been ordered until acceptance of a seal is determined. It is the Staff's recom-
mendation that this particular emblem be adopted as the Seal of the City of Beaumont.
Mayor Ritter commented that this is a rather modernistic approach, he thought it was very
well done, and that a lot of the City's correspondence goes all over the United States and
some foreign countries, and letterheads are all that some companies see of the City of.Beau-
mont, and this is an impression they get, and it is his belief that this is very important
to the City.
