WHEREAS, Waldo Wilson, James Cooke Wilson, Jr., Mrs.
Mary Wilson Kelsey, Mrs. Fay Randolph Wilson Griffith, Nancy
Wilson Scanlan, Waldo Wilson, Jr., John Wilson Kelsey, Thomas
Randolph Kelsey, Mavis Kelsey, Jr., Mary Randolph Griffith,
James P. S. Griffith, Jr., Wilson Griffith, Richard Griffith,
J. Cooke Wilson, III, Stephen Kiley Wilson, Bradley Wilson and
Margaret Jane Wilson, children and grandchildren of the late J.
Cooke Wilson and Mary Randolph Wilson, are desirous of making a
gift of the Wilson Home to the City of Beaumont, Texas, in memory
of their parents and grandparents; and
WHEREAS, Waldo Wilson, James Cooke Wilson, Jr., Mrs.
Mary Wilson Kelsey, Mrs. Fay Randolph Wilson Griffith and The
American National Bank of Beaumont, Beaumont, Texas, Individually
and as beneficiaries and Co -Trustees under the Will of Mary Randolph
Wilson, did execute and deliver to the City of Beaumont, Jefferson
County, Texas, a deed of conveyance, dated October 23, 1969, to
such property, being more particularly described as follows, to -wit:

Lots Numbers One (1) through Twenty -Six (26),
in Block Number Thirty -Eight (38) of the AVERILL
ADDITION to the City of Beaumont, Jefferson County,
Texas, together with all improvements thereon, as
per map or plat of said addition of record in the
office of the County Clerk of said County and
State;
WHEREAS, said deed of conveyance is subject to the condi-
tion that the City of Beaumont will, as rapidly as possible, estab-
lish upon said premises a Memorial Art Center to be designated as
"THE WILSON MEMORIAL ART CENTER" and, further, that the City of
Museum for a period of fifty (50) years under certain terms and
conditions, all as set forth in said conveyance; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, and the citizens of Beaumont
generally, recognize this gift.to be of great value to the City of
Beaumont and to its future progress by providing a cultural center
to its citizens and surrounding area, where enjoyment of beauty
and cultivation of art will give inspiration to many, and where
the memory of the accomplishments of its owners will flourish in
the accomplishments of others; and that such center to serve all
of the citizens reflects credit upon the Wilson family, as well as
bringing credit to the City of Beaumont;
NOW:; THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Beaumont, Texas, that the Wilson Home be, and it is
hereby in all things accepted by the City of Beaumont, for the
purpose of establishing an art center, to be designated as "THE
WILSON MEMORIAL ART CENTER" in memory of J. COOKE WILSON and MARY
RANDOLPH WILSON, under the terms and conditions set forth in said
conveyance dated October 23, 1969, and JAMES D. McNICHOLAS,,, Mayor
of the City of Beaumont, Texas, is hereby authorized to execute,
on behalf of the City of Beaumont, its acceptance;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Beaumont, acting
herein by and through its Mayor and City Council, does hereby ex-
press its appreciation and recognition of the generosity of the
donors, to -wit: WALDO WILSON,, JAMES COOKE WILSON:, JR.,, MRS. MARY
WILSON KELSEY:, MRS. FAY RANDOLPH WILSON GRIFFITH, children of the
late J. Cooke Wilson and Mary Randolph Wilson, and NANCY WILSON
SCANLAN, WALDO WILSON, JR.;e JOHN WILSON KELSEY, THOMAS RANDOLPH
KELSEY:, MAVIS KELSEYs JR., MARY RANDOLPH GRIFFITH, JAMES P. S.
GRIFFITH, JR., WILSON GRIFFITH, RICHARD GRIFFITH, J. COOKE WILSON;`,
III,, STEPHEN KILEY WILSON,`BRADLEY WILSON and MARGARET JANE WILSON,
grandchildren of the late J. Cooke Wilson and Mary Randolph Wilson.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
entered into the Minutes of the City Council of the City of Beaumont,
Texas, this dttday of December, A. D., 1969, and that a copy be.
delivered to the press, and to each of the donors, and it is so
ordered.
