DEFINING THE CITY'S LIABILITY FOR THE PRO RATA PART OF THE
OUTSTANDING BONDED INDEBTEDNESS OF. THE FRENCH SCHOOL DISTRICT,
KNOWN AS COMMON SOHOOL DISTRICT NUMBER 5, OF THE COUNTY OF
JEFFERSON STATE OF TEXAS; REPRESENTED BY THE PROPERTY VALUES
OF THAT PORTION OF SAID DISTRICT TAKEN IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT
FOR SCHOOL PURPOSES BY AN ORDINANCE PASSED NOVEMBEa 27, 1925,
AS COMPARED WITH THE TOTAL PROPERTY VALUES OF THE SAID CODON
SCHOOL DISTRICT NUMBEq_5,-__$1W i;IRECTING THE_ CITY _GLERK_OF. THE
_ - CITY �yF BEAUMONT TO SET ASIDE FROM YEAAi TO YEAR BUNDS AVAIL-
ABLE OUT OF THE RATE OF TAXATION LEVIED TO CREATE A. SINKING
FUND AND 2AY THE INTEREST ON THE BONDIDf _;,INDEBTEDNESS OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR SCHOOL PURPOSES SUFFICIENT TO rAY THE
CITY`S OBLIGATION UPON SAID ENDED INDEBTEDNESS AND -DIRECT-
ING ASID AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO PAY THE CITY OF BEAU-
MONT'S PRO RATA SHARE OF SAID BONDED INDEBTEDNESS AND THE
INTEREST THEREON AS THE SAME ACCRUES, . iaM DECLARING AN EMER-
GENCY.
WHEREAS, on- the 16th day of August, •A. D. 1924, at an election
duly called and held for that purpose in the Gity . of j�eaumont, the duly
qualified voters oct Beaumont did vote to assume the pro rata part of
the outstanding bonded indebtedness of the Vrench School District as
set out in the caption hereof, and the returns of said election were
duly canvassed and declared by a resolution duly passed on the 19th day
of august, 1924; and
WHEREAS, from the certificate of the Tag Assessor and the
County supetintendent of the schools of Jefferson County, Texas, it ap-
pears that the total assessed valuation of the property of, said wrench
6ehool Listrict was _1,575_,784.00,_ and. the_ -portion of said District
taken into the U'ity of bdaumont �by -said ordinance passed November 27,
1923, had a total valuation of 8592,084.00; and
°HJt TEAS, it appears from the statement of indebtedness of the
1�rench school District, as certified by the Texas :.'national bank of
.Beaumont, and .. the County Superintendent of Schools, that there was out-
standing in bonds of said Listrict, the amount of X25,000.00, dated
the 10th day of April 1912, bearing interest at the rate of 5 % per
annum, due forty years alter their date with option of redemption after
thirty years, and upon said indebtedness there was an accrued sinking
fund in the sum of 0,665.67, leaving the net indebtedness of said uis-
trict ;16,334.33.; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with said election, the pro rata part
of said, indebtediless due, assumed by the Uity of Beaumont, amounts to
the round sum of $6,138.00, principal, iAaturing April 10, 1952, with
interest thereon at the rate of 5 �b per annum.

Section ,1:':
That the amount of the outstanding bonded indebtedness of
the French School District, known as Common School District Slumber 5,
of Jefferson County, Texas, assumed by the City of Beaumont at the

Section II.
Be it further ordained that the City Clerk of the City of
Beaumont is hereby authorized and directed to 'set aside from the tag
revenues collected to pay the bonded indebtedness of the Beaumont pub -
lie Schools, sufficient funds from, year to year to meet payment of
said -,portion of.,._said-. nd,ebt-edness-_and---int.er-est- thereon- -and--the said - -
City Clerk and Director of Finance are further authorized and directed
to pay the City of Beaumont's portion of said indebtedness as it accrues.
Whereas an installment of said indebtedness accrues on April
10th, 1926, and the fact that there is not sufficient time for the
reading of this ordinance on three separate days before its passage -by
that date creates an emergency and an. imperative public necessity requir-
ing the rule that ordinances shall be read on three several days to be
suspended and said rule is hereby . suspended and this ordinance shall be
in full force and effect from and after its passage.
Passed by an -affirmative vote of all of the members of the

BEAUMOONT- AND TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE BEAUMONT INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL', DISTRICT: -
GENTLEMFi�:
We, the dersigned citizens and taxpayers of
the Beaumont Independent Scbool District, a district within
the municipality of Beaumont, Texas, hereby respectfully
petition your Honorable Body to call an election to be held
by the qualified voters of the aforesaid district so that they
may vote upon whether or not the said district may issue.bonds
against slid district in the sum of Fifty Thousand Dollars
($50;000:00), the proceeds from the sale .of said bonds to be
used for the purpose ofAaskAn5sMMst9z and terations, and
purchasing equipment for the public school buildings and grounds
of said school district, as the said Board of Education of said
district may.deem necessary and practical.
That at said election there also be submitted
the proposition of increasing the, tax -rate for maintenance of
said schools an additional 10 cents on the One - Hundred Dollars
valuation*
And that there be further submitted at said
election the proposition of whether or not the Beaumont Indepbnd-
ent School District shall assume its proportionate part of the
bonded indebtedness of the French School District represented by
the values of the per.tion of the French dchool District taken
into the City for school purposes, and whether or not the bonded
indebtedness of the. district as extended 'shall..be assumed by the.
district as ext ended,
