FOR TIM SUPPORT AND YLINTENANCE OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS:
TO PAY THE EXPENSES OF THE DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY GOVERNIE'NT, AS NAMED IN
SAID ORDINANCE, AND THE GENERAL EXPENSE OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT, AND APPORTION-
ING THE TAXES TO BE LEVIED TO SUCH DEPARTMENTS AND PURPOSES AS SET FORTH IN
SAID ORDINANCE: PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF OCCUPATION TAX, AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
SECTION 1.
That there shall be and is hereby levied, and shall be assessed and
collected for the year 1928, an ad valorem tax of TWO AND 47100 DOLLARS
($2.47) on each one hundred dollars worth of property in the City of Beazmoxn
located within the territory comprising the old city limits existing prior
to the adoption of the present City Charter and comprising the Beaumont
Independent School District in the City of Beaumont made taxable by law,
which said taxe , when collected, shall be, according to Section 16 of the
Charter of the ity of Beaumont, apportioned among the funds and departments
of the city government of the City of Beaumont, and for the purposes here-
inafter set forth, as follows, to -wit:

SECTION 3.
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be assessed and col-
lected for the year 1928, a school maintenace tax of 70� on each 0100.00 wozith
of property in the territory taken into the City of Beaumont for school pur-
poses only by the City Commission of the City of Beaumont by ordinance
passed the 27th day of November, A.D. 1923, and there shall be and is here-
by levied and shall be assessed and collected for the year 1928 a tax of
27¢ on each $100.00 worth of said property to take care of the interest and
sinking fund on the'school bonded indebtedness of the City of Beaumont. Said
tax is hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected for said year on
all property in the territory taken in by the Cit of Beaumont for school
purposes only by an ordinance passed by the City Uommiss ion of said City on
the 27th day of November, A.D. 1923, said territory being known as a portion
of what is commonly called the French School District.
SECTION 4.
That there shall be and is hereby levied and there shall be collected
on all occupations and callings on which an occupation tax is levied by the
State of Texas, a sum equal to one-half of the amount so levied by the State
of Texas, on each respective occupation or calling in the City of Beazmont.
SECTION 5.
There being no Ordinance in effect levying the taxes for the year 1928,
and the taxes for said year being now due and payable an immediate public
emergency exists, necessitating the suspension of the rule requiring ordi-
nances to be read on three separate days before passage, wherefore, said
rule is hereby suspended and it is enacted that this Ordinance shall be in

ON EACH $100.00 VALUATION OF ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS AND A TAX OF TWENTY-SEVEN CENTS ($.27) ON EACH
$100.00 VALUATION OF AIS, TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE OLD CITY LIMITS OF THE
CITY OF BEAU'ONT, TEXAS, ON THAT PORTION OUTSIDE TACT IN FOR SCHOOL PUR-
POSES ONLY, LEVIED AND ORDERED COLLECTED BY AN ORDINANCE PASSED BY TIM CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ON THE 28TH DAY OF AUGUST, A.D. 1928,
FOR THE PURPOSE OF PAYING THE INTEREST AND CREATING A SINKING FUND FOR THE

all taxable property within the city limits of the City of Beaumont hereto-
fore levied for interest and sinking fund accounts other than school bond
accounts, and ordered collected by an Ordinance, passed by the City Commis-
sion of the City of Beaumont on the 28th day of August, A.D. 1928, be and
the same is hereby apportioned among the various interest and sinking funds
as follows:

SECTION 2.
That the tax of twenty-seven cents ($.27) on each $100.00 valuation of
all taxable property lying within the old city limits of the City of Beaumont
as such limits existed at the time of the adoption of the present City Charter
and that portion taken in in 1923 for school purposes only, heretofore levied
for interest and sinking fund accounts on school bond indebtedness for the
Beaumont City Schools and ordered collected by an ordinance passed on the 28tt
day of August, A.D. 19281, be and the same is hereby apportioned among the
various school bond interest and sinking funds as follows:

ance, and to so present his statement and report to the Director of Fin-
ance that said officer may be able to place all collections made under said
tax to the credit of the proper fund and that the same may not be diverted
or used for any other purpose.

SECTION 4.
The fact that no apportionment has been made of the assessments levied
to provide for the interest and sinking fund for the bonded indebtedness
of the City of 3eaumont, creates an imperative public emergency necessitat-
ing the suspension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read at three
separate meetings before their passage wherefore, said rule is suspended
and this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage and signature of the Mayor.

SECTION 11.
There being no ordinance in effect making appropriations for the fis-
cal year 1928-29, as required by the Charter of the City of Beaumont, and
it being necessary that expenditures be authorized in accordance with the
annual budget, creates an immediate public emergency necessitating the sus-
pension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on three several days be-
fore passage; wherefore, said rule is hereby suspended and it is enacted that
this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and aft7///7
