HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 26-UAN ORDINANCE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 71-11 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, MAKING IT UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO ENTER UPON THE ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION, ALTERATION OR CHANGE OF ANY ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION, MACHINERY, WORK, OR WIRING WITHOUT FIRST SECURING A PERMIT FROM THE CITY ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR; PROVIDING FOR THE CONTENTS OF THE APPLICATION FOR SUCH PERMIT; PROVIDING THE METHOD OF INSTALLING LOW VOLTAGE MAG- NETIC SWITCHES THAT ARE DESIGNED TO CONTROL LIGHTS AND OTHER NON -INDUCTIVE LOADS; AND PROVIDING THAT NO PERMIT WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF TVaRES TO OPERATE TELEPHONES, TELEGRAPH, DISTRICT MES- SENGERS AND WATCH -CLOCK FIRE ALARMS; PROVIDING SEPAR- ABILITY AND SAVINGS CLAUSE, AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT WITH THIS ORDINANCE® BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: SECTION 1: Article 71-11 of the Code of The City of Beaumont is hereby amended to -read as follows: "It shall be unlawful for any person to enter up- on the erection, construction, alteration or change of any electrical installation, machinery, work, or wiring, either inside or outside of any building in the City, without first making application in writing therefor, to and receiving a permit from the Electrical Inspector for such construction, in- stallation, repair, alteration, change, or wiring. All applications shall be accompanied with the fees herein provided for and a description of the prem- ises affected, by street number or lot or block num- ber, and when required by the electrical inspector, plans -and specifications for the proposed work; pro- vided, however, the electrical inspector may issue a general permit to such person owning or controlling any building, for a term not exceeding three months from the date thereof, authorizing minor alterations or changes, but such permit shall be revocable by the inspector; and it is hereby further provided that all low voltage magnetic switches that are designed to control lights and other non -inductive loads shall be installed as follows: The relay or magnetic switches shall be installed in such a manner that they may be readily removed and re -installed after outlet box containing same is concealed without removing plaster or finish of. building; they are to be installed in outlet boxes of sufficient size to compensate for space occupied by the relay, and shall be securely ai machine screws or of outlet box in which remote control low Z used to control ligi installed in an appy readily accessible i repairs. The transformer for the control`system shall not exceed 25 volts or 50 watts and shall have overcurrent protection on the secondary side not exceeding its cap city, located within 12 inches of transformer. /The primary side of the transformer/will be considered protected by overcurrent protection not exceeding 15 amperes. And it is further provided that no permits will be required for the installation of wires to operate telephones, telegraph, district messen- gers, and watch -clock fire alarms.11 SECTION 2: Separability and Savings Clause: If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such section, sub -section, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and such holdings shall not affect the validity or con- stitutionality of the remaining portion thereof. SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent or contrary hereto are hereby expressly repealed. - 2 - 1949. PASSED by the City Council this 5th day of April, A.D. - 3 - Mayor -
