AN ORDINANCE DESCRIBING AND DEFINING AN AREA ON
ALL MOTOR BUSES OPERATING OVER, UPON AND ON ALL
STREETS, PASSAGEWAYS AND ALLEYS OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT BEYOND WHICH NO PASSENGERS SHALL STAND;
PROHIBITING PASSENGERS FROM STANDING IN SAID
AREA, AND PROHIBITING THE MOVEMENT OF SAID BUSES
WHILE PASSENGERS -OCCUPY -SUCH AREA; AND PROVIDING
A PENALTY.
WHEREAS, it is necessary for the public health and safety
and welfare of The City of Beaumont and the inhabitants of said
City that there be prescribed and defined an area on all buses
operating over, upon and on the streets, passageways and alleys
of said City in which no passenger or passengers shall stand;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT:
Section 1:
No motor bus or buses shall be operated upon the streets,
passageways or alleys in The City of Beaumont unless upon each of
said buses so operated there shall have been painted upon the
floor, or clearly indicated by other means, a line'not less than
two inches in width extending from the rear door jamb of the front
door of said bus or buses, and proceeding in a straight line across
the flooring to the opposite side of said bus or buses beyond
which no passenger or passengers shall stand toward the front of
said bus or buses.
Section 2:
No driver or operator of any bus operated in The City of
Beaumont shall cause said bus or buses to move or travel unless
all passengers shall be seated or standing to the rear of the line
above described.
Section 3:
Any driver or operator of any of the buses herein described
who moves or causes said bus to move or travel in violation of this

ordinance shall be guilty of violating the provisions of this
ordinance and be subject to the penalties hereinafter provided.
Section 4:
Any passenger or passengers who refuse to be seated or
stand in the rear of the line hereinabove described after warn-
ing from the driver or operator of such bus or buses shall be
deemed -:guilty of violating this ordinance and shall be subject
to the penalties hereinafter provided.
Section 5:
All bus companies operating within the limits of The City
of Beaumont shall display in a conspicuous place in each bus so
operated a sign calling attention to the provisions of this ordi-
Section 6:
Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordi-
nance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall
be punished by a fine of not less than One ($1.00) Dollar nor
more than Two Hundred ($200.00) Dollars.
Section 7:
If any part or parts of this ordinance are for any reason
held to be invalid, such decision shall not affect the.validity
of the remaining portions of this ordinance.
Section 8:
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with or
inconsistent with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby re-
pealed.
Section 9:
This ordinance shall take effect from and after the 26-41,
day of 122.,! c , A.D. 1949.

I have checked the proposed ordinance
prepared by your office for the purpose of
defining a safety line in the Beaumont city
buses to insure that the riders and standees
do not encroach beyond such line.
I do not see,anything wrong with this
ordinance and it has my approval.
