AN ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE
RATES -TO BE CHARGED BY THE SOUTHWESTERN BELL
TELEPHONE.COMPANY IN THE -CITY OF BEAUMONT
TEXAS.
WHEREAS., the schedule of rates for telephone service
now charged in The City of Beaumont has not been increased during
the.past twenty-seven years; and,
WHEREAS) during the same p6riod of time the costs of
labor and materials have ificreased to thepoint where the revenue
produced from the current schedule of rates is -no longer sufficient
to cover the increased cost of furnishing telephone service in
Beaumont; andS
WHEREAS, the Telephone Company has applied to the City
Council for relief from this condition by an adjustment of its
rates for service; and,
WHEREAS o n i
.9 the City C u c1l recognizes the right of the
Telephone Company to earn a fair return on the -fair value of its
property devoted to the rendition of telephone service within The
City of Beaumont;
NMI, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company is hereby
authorized to place into effect on its first billing date after
this ordinance becomes effective in accordance with the Charter of
the City,, the following schedule of rates:

to a.nd made a part hereof is also granted.
Section 2.
That nothing in this ordinance contained shall be con-
strued as in any manner., now or hereafter, limiting or modifying
the right and power of the City Council under the law to regulate
the rates charged by the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for
its service within The City of Beaumont.
