OF MAY; 196o, AS PROVIDED. BY, THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, FOR. THE PURPOSE OF ELECTINGA MAYOR AND FOUR CONCILMEN; AND.ORDERING AN ELECTION ON THE SAME DATE AND IN CONJUNCTION WITH SAID GENERAL ELECTION TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THE CITY OF.BEAUMONT SHALL ADOPT THE FIREMEN'S AND POLICEMEN'S. CIVIL'SERVICE ACT; NAMING,THE PLACES WHERE SAID ELEC-_ TION SHALL BE HELD; AJPPOINTING JUDGES TO PRESIDE OVER SAID ELECTIONS; PROVIDING THE FORM OF BALLOT IN -THE ELECTION CONCERNING THE ADOPTION OF THE FIREMENtS AND POLICEMEN'S CIVIL SERVICE ACT; PROVIDING -THE MANNER OF HOLDING SAID ELECTIONS; AND PROVIDING FOR'NOTICE OF SAID ELECTIONS. WHEREAS, under the provisions of the City'Charter of The City of Beaumont and the laws of the State of Texas relating'thereto; a regular general municipal election is required to be held in The City of Beaumont on the second Tuesday of May, 1960, for the purpose of electing a' Mayor and.one Councilman -from the First Ward, one Council-* man from the Second Ward, one- Councilman --from the Third Tigard,- and. -one . Councilman from the.Fourth Ward; and,.. WHEREAS, on the.6th day of December,-1947, an election was held.in The .City of .Beaumont at.which election the adoption or rejec-• tion,.of the Firemen's and Policements.Civi1 Service Act was submitted . to the qualified electors, at which said election a majority of the qualified voters voting in said election voted against,the adoption of the provisions of.said.Act; and; WHEREAS, on December 16, 1958,, a petition was presented to the. City Council for an election at which the adoption or rejection of the Firemen's and Policemen's Civil Service Act shall be submitted, which said petition was, signed by a sufficient number ' of qualified. voters of The City of Beaumont; and, WHEREAS, the laws of the State of Texas provide that if such petition for any such election after the first election is presented to the City Council, an election at which the adoption or rejection of the Firemen's'an.d Policemen's Civil Sery ce'Act shall be submitted, shall be held at the next general municipal::election'to be held after, r) e- C C r / r X the filing of such petition; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT. TEXAS: Section 1. That in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter of The City of Beaumont and the laws of the State of Texas, relating thereto, there shall be held in The City of Beaumont on the second Tuesday in May, 1960, the same being the loth day of May, 1960, a regular municipal election for said City for the purpose of electing a Mayor, and one Councilman from the First Ward, one Councilman from the Second Ward, one Councilman from the Third Ward, and one Council. man from the Fourth Ward, for said City; and in conjunction therewith an election shall be held at which the adoption or rejection of the Firemen's and Policemen's Civil Service Act shall be submitted to the qualified voters of The City of ,Beaumont. Section 2. That said election shall be held in The City of Beaumont at the following places, to wit: Edwards School Building; French High School Building; French Elementary School Building; Longfellow School Building; Averill School Building; Junker School Building; Millard School Building; County Court House Building; George Washington Carver School Building; Magnolia School Building; Ogden School Building; David Crockett Junior High School Building; Hebert School Building; Giles School Building; L. R. Pietzsch School Building; Voth.-Rosedale School Building; ,Amelia School Building; Tyrrell Park Recreation Building, and Sallie Curtis School Building. That all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. l shall vote at the Edwards School Building; that all voters residing in Coun- ty Voting Precinct No. 2 shall vote at the French High School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 3. shall vote at the French Elementary School Building; that all voters residing in -2- L County Voting Precincts Nos. 4 and S shall vote at the Longfellow School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts' Nos. 6 and 7 shall vote at the Averill School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 8 shall vote at the Junker School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 9 and 10 shall vote at the Millard School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 11 shall vote at the County Court House Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 12 shall vote at the George Washington Carver School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 13 shall vote at the Mag- nolia School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Pre- cinct No. 14 shall vote at the Ogden School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 15, 16 and 17 shall vote at the David Crockett Junior High School Building; that all voters resid- ing in County Voting Precinct No. 19 shall vote at the Hebert School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 19 shall vote at the Giles School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 20 and 21 shall vote at the L. R. Pietzsch School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 22 and 23 shall vote at the Voth-Rosedale School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 26 and 27 shall vote at the Amelia School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 28 shall vote at the Tyrrell Park Recreation Build- ing; and that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 62 shall vote at the Sallie Curtis School Building. !/'- Section 3. The following named persons are appointed presiding judges for their respective voting boxes, with the authority to select and appoint their own clerks: Edwards School, Mrs. C. C. Moore F'n.erfch High School, Mrs. F. W. Forsythe French Elementary School, Mrs. W. D. Howard Longfellow School, Albert Henry Averill School, D. N. Bodin Junker School, Mrs. James E. Ray Millard School, Mrs. Delia Harrington -3- M W Court House, Mrs. W. C. Ross, Sr. George Washington Carver School, W. W. Como Magnolia School, E. A. Godwin Ogden School, Mrs. T. F. Rush David Crockett Junior High School, H. A. McDonald Hebert School, 0. B. Hebert Giles School, Ray V. Watson L. R. Pietzsch School, Mrs. J. C. Burkhart Voth-yRosedale School, T. S. The form of the ballots to be used in said election at which the adoption or rejection of the Firemen's andPolicemen's Civil Service Act shall be submitted shall be substantially as follows: Shall the Firemen's and Policemen's Civil Service Act be adopted? FOR THE ADOPTION OF THE FIREMEN'S AND POLICEMEN'S CIVIL SERVICE ACT .A.GAINST THE ADOPTION OF THE FIREMEN t S AND POLICEMEN'S CIVIL SERVICE ACT - Mark an X in one of the blocks according to your choice. Section 5. That said elections shall be held under, and the, qualifications of those voting thereat, shall be controlled by the provisions of the State laws governing elections. Section 6. A copy of this ordinance, signed by the Mayor of The City of Beaumont and attested by the City Clerk thereof, shall serve as proper and sufficient notice of said elections; and the Mayor is hereby directed to cause a copy of this ordinance, signed by himself and at:. tested by the City Clerk, to be posted at each of the places herein designated for holding.said elections, at least thirty (30 days prior to the date of holding said elections.
