AN ORDINANCE
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE LEASING TO SOUTHERN AIR
SPECIALTIES COMPANY, A . C ORP ORAT I ON, 275.44 _
ACRES OF LAND OUT OF THE A. SAVERY LEAGUE IN
JEFFERSON.. COUNTY, TEXAS, KNOWN AS THE MUNICIPAL
AIRPORT, 'AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR.AND THE CITY
CLERK TO EXECUTE THE LEASE CONTRACT DATED JANUARY
31, 19473, LEASING.SAID_LAND TO.SOUTHERN AIR
SPECIALTIES COMPANY, A CORPORATION._ __
wEEREAS, the City of Beaumont is the owner of that certain
piece and parcel of land located in Jefferson County; Texas, and
being a part of the A. Savery League more fully described as
follows;
and,
Beginning at an iron stake at foot of 6x6 post
in center of Willow Marsh where S. right of way line
of Beaumont & Sour Lake Railway crosses said Marsh;
thence following meanders of Willow Marsh Channel (in
a straight line) S. 34 deg. E. 2860 feet to a,post_for
corner; thence following meanders of Willow Marsh
Channel (in a straight line)S. 9 deg. E. 1832 ft. to
center of channel of said Marsh where N. right of way
fence line of Southern Pacific (T. & N. 0. R. R.)
crosses said channel of said Marsh; thence N. 81 -deg.
301 E. with the N. right of way line of -said R. R.
Company 2752 feet to corner 50 ft. W. from center of
the Amelia Lateral of the Neches Canal Company; thence
N. 10 deg. 541 VIT. parallel with and 501 W. from the
center of above mentioned Lateral 3691.5/10 feet to
a stake in the S. right of -way line of the B. S. L. & W.
R. R. Company; thence N. 87 deg. 481,W. with the said
right of way line of said R. R. Company 3913 feet to
place of beginning and containing 275.44 acres of land,
and being part of the property described in Sheriff's
deed dated March 9, 19251 of record in Vol. 252, page
201, of the Deed Records of Jefferson County, Texas;
WHEREAS, said land was purchased and has been used by
the City of Beaumont for a municipal airport and same is equipped
with hangars and other buildings and facilities necessary to air-
port purposes; and,
WHEREAS, the present lease on said airport expired on
January 31, 1947; and,
WHEREAS, prior to that time the City of Beaumont asked
for bids on a five (5) year lease on said land and premises; and,
WHEREAS, the Southern Air Specialties Company, a private
corporation, has submitted a proposal for the leasing of said
airport, said proposal being in substance as follows; A monthly
rental of Two Hundred and Twenty-five ($225.00) Dollars and
in addition thereto a sum equal to Two Cents (2¢) per gallon
on each gallon of gasoline sold from the leased premises, and
in addition thereto, the Lessee agrees to place the buildings,
equipment and premises in a good state of repair and to maintain
same in said state during the term of the lease; and,
WHEREAS, the City Commission is of the opinion that the
proposal of the Southern Air Specialties Company is the best bid
received in response to the notice requesting bids on the leasing
of the premises and that said rental stipulated therein is a
full, fair and reasonable rental for the premises; and,
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Beaumont is
of the opinion that it is to the best interest of the City of
Beaumont that the above described tract of land, with the excep-
tion of a small part heretofore leased to D. Harold Byrd occupied
by a hangar known as the Byrd Hangar, be leased to the Southern
Air Specialties Company for a period of five (5) years from -
February lst, 1947, for the rental stipulated in said lease agree-
ment and upon the terms and conditions otherwise stipulated in
said lease agreement, said lease agreement being dated January
31, 1947, reference to which is hereby made.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT E
That the property hereinbefore described, save and ex-
cept the following described tract of land, to -wit;
Beginning at the S.E. corner of the Beaumont
Municipal Airport property; thence North along the _
East line of said Beaumont Municipal Airport property
1478.3 feet, more or less, to a point opposite the
Southeast corner of the Beaumont Municipal Airport
hangar; thence West 459.5 feet, more or less, to the
Southeast corner of the Beaumont Municipal Airport
hangar, for the beginning corner of this description;
thence South 126.3 feet to corner; thence West 82.9
feet to corner; thence North 123.8 feet to Southwest
corner of the Beaumont Municipal Airport hangar;
thence East along the South line of the Beaumont
Municipal Airport hangar to the place of -beginning;
the above excepted tract containing 10,523 square
feet, more or less, and being the tract upon which
is located a certain structure known as the Byrd Hangar,

be leased to Southern Air Specialties Company, a corporation,
for a term of five (5) years beginning the first day of
February, 1947, on a monthly rental of Two Hundred and Twenty-
five ($225.00) Dollars and a sum equal to Two Cents (2¢) per
gallon on each gallon of gasoline sold from the'premises, and
upon the condition that all terms and stipulations of said
lease shall be kept by the said Lessee; and that the Mayor
and the City Clerk be and they are hereby authorized and
directed to execute on behalf of the City of Beaumont, as
Lessor, a lease agreement with the said Southern Air Specialties
Company, same being dated the 31st day of January, 1947.,
