J AN ORDINANCE
ORDERING THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE CITY OF BEAUMONT
FOR THE YEAR 1947, AS PROVIDED BY THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, ON
THE DATE AND AT THE PLACES SET FORTH IN SAID ORDINANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF
ELECTING SIX COUNCILMEN AS DESIGNATED IN SAID ORDINANCE; NAMING THE PLACES
AT WHICH SAID ELECTION SHALL BE HELD AND DESIGNATING THE PLACES WHERE THE
VOTERS SHALL VOTE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That in accordance with Section 26, Sub -section 4, of the Charter
of the City of Beaumont and other provisions of said Charter, and laws of the
State of Texas relating thereto, there shall be held in the City of Beaumont
on the first Tuesday in April, 1947, the same being the 1st day of April, A.D.,
1947, a regular municipal election for said City for the purpose of electing
two councilmen for the First `;yard, two councilmen for the Second Ward, and two
councilmen for the Third Ward in said City.
Section 2.
That said election shall be held in the City of Beaumont in the
following places, to wit:
In the First Ward at French High School Building, Junker
School Building, Central Fire Station, Averill School
Building, and St. Anne School Building.
In the Second Ward at the City Hall Building.
In the Third 'Hard at the Sabine Pass Fire Station, David
Crockett Jr. High School Building, Ogden School Building,
South Park Elementary School Building, Giles School Build-
ing, Hebert School Building, and Edwards School Building.
That all voters residing in County voting precinct No. 1 in the City
shall vote at French High School Building; that all voters residing in County
voting precinct No. 2 in the City shall vote at Junker School Building; that
all voters residing in County voting precincts Nos. 3, 6, and 7 in the City
shall vote at Central Fire Station; that all voters residing in County voting.
precinct No. 4 in the City shall vote at Averill School Building; that all
voters residing in County voting precincts Nos. 5 and 47 in the City shall
vote at St. Anne School Building; that all voters residing in County voting
precincts Nos. 8 and 9 in the City shall vote at City Hall Building; that all
voters residing in County voting precincts Nos. 10, 13, and 14 in the City
shall vote at the Sabine Pass Fire Station; that all voters residing in County
voting precincts Nos. 11 and 50 in the City shall vote at David Crockett Jr.
High School Building; that all voters residing in County voting precinct No.
12 in the City shall vote at the Ogden School Building; that all voters resid-
ing in County voting precincts Nos. 15 and 42 in�-the City shall vote at South
Park Elementary School Building; that all voters residing in County voting
precinct No. 16 in the City shall vote at Giles School Building; that all
voters residing in County voting precincts Nos. 17 and 43'in the City shall
vote at Hebert School Building; that all voters residing in County voting
precincts Nos. 18 and 19 in the City shall vote at Edwards School Building.
Section 3.
The following named persons
are appointed presiding judges for their
respective voting boxes in said wards,
with the authority to select and appoint
their own clerks:

Section 4.
That said election shall be held under, and the qualifications of
those voting thereat shall be controlled by the provisions of the State Laws
governing elections.
Section 5.
That a copy of this ordinance signed by the Mayor of the City of
Beaumont, and attested by the City Clerk thereof shall serve as proper and
sufficient notice of said election, and the Mayor is hereby directed to cause
a copy of this ordinance, signed by himself and attested by the City Clerk,
to be posted at each of the places herein designated for holding said election
at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of holding said election.
Section 6.
That an ordinance has not yet been passed providing for and order-
ing a general municipal election for the year 1947, and that such ordinance
is necessary, thereby creating an imperative public emergency necessitating
the suspension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on three separate
days before their passage, wherefore, said rule is hereby suspended and.this
ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and the signature of
the Mayor.
PASSED by the affirmative vote of all members of the City Commission,
this the 25th day of February, A. D., 1947.
