ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 12 OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS, BY AMENDING SECTION 12-19 TO PROVIDE
POSITIONS,.PAY AND GRADES IN THE POLICE DEPART-
MENT; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE; PROVIDING
"FOR SEVERABILITY AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Chapter 12, Section 12-19 of the Code of Ordinances of the
City of Beaumont, Texas, be and the same is hereby, amended to read as follows:
Section 12-19 All positions in the Police Department of the City
of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into
the following grades, each grade having duties of
substantially similar authority, inportance and res-
ponsibility:,
Grade I - There shall be 118 positions in Grade I,
said positions to include patrolmen. The base pay
of every officer in this grade with one (1) year
or less service shall be $930.00 per month; the
base pay of every officer in this grade with more
than one (1) year service but not more than three (3)
years service shall be $968.00 per month; the base
pay of every officer in this grade with more than
three (3) years service but not more than five --.(5)
years service shall be $1,021.00 a month and the�base
pay of every officer in this grade with more than
five (5) years service shall be $1,048.00 per month.
Grade II - There shall be 52 positions in Grade II,
said positions to include sergeants. The base pay
of every officer in this grade with five (5) years
or less service shall be $1,129.00 and the base pay
of every officer in this grade with more than five (5)
years service shall be $1,156.00.

Grade III - There._�sh'all: be 10 positions in Grade III;
said positions to include police lieutenants. The
base pay of every officer in this grade with five (5)
years or less service shall be $1,236.00 per month and
the base pay of every officer in this grade with more
than five (5) years service shall be $1,290.00 per
month.
Grade IV - There shall be 8 positions in Grade IV, said
positions to include police captains. The base pay of
every officer in this grade with five (5) years or less
service shall be $1,371.00 per month and the base pay of
every officer in this grade with more than five (5) years
service shall be $1,424.00 per month.
Grade V - There shall be 2;positions in Grade V, said
positions to include police majors. The base pay of
every officer in this grade with five (5) years or less
service shall be $1,505.00 per month and.the base pay
of every officer in this grade with five (5) years or
more service shall be $1,559.00 per month.
Grade VI - There shall be 1 position in Grade VI, said
position being the assistant chief of police. The base
pay of every officer in this grade shall be $1,666.00.
This ordinance shall be effective October 1, 1976.

Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this
ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or cir-
cumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity

shall in no wise affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such
end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.

Section 4.
All ordinances or parts of.ordinances in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed.
