ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 76-25
TO PROVIDE THAT NOTICE OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT BE GIVEN BY POSTING
A COPY OF THE ELECTION ORDINANCE AT EACH POLLING
PLACE; BY PUBLISHING A NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION IN
A NEWSPAPER; AND BY FILING WITH THE COUNTY CLERK OF
JEFFERSON COUNTY, TEXAS AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
WHEREAS, on February 24, 1976, Ordinance No. 76-25 ordering the
General Municipal Election for the City of Beaumont was passed; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council now desires to amend that ordinance to
provide for a different method of giving notice of said election.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:

That Ordinance 76-25 heretofore passed by the City of Beaumont on
February 24, 1976, be and the same is hereby amended by amending Section
6 thereof to read as follows:
Section 6. That notice of said election shall be
given by publishing said notice as set out herein
in a newspaper of general circulation in this City
and County one time, not more than twenty-five (25)
days or less than ten (10) days before said
election. Said notice shall be in the following
form:
"NOTICE OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR THE PURPOSE
OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND FOUR COUNCILMEN."
"Notice is hereby given that the General
Election as provided by the Charter of
the City of Beaumont and the statutes of
the State of Texas will be held in the
City of Beaumont, Texas, on the 3rd day.
of April, 1976, from 7:00 A.M.to 7:00 P.M.,
for the purpose of electing a Mayor and
four Councilmen."
Said notice shall also be posted in each
election precinct as set out herein in Exhibit
"A" at least twenty (20) days before said election.
Said notice shall also be filed with the
County Clerk and another copy shall be posted on a
bulletin board in the office of the County Clerk
at least twenty (20) days before the election.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of
this ordinance or the application of same to a particular person, or
to a particular set of circumstances should for any reason be field in-
valid, such invalidity shall in no way affect the remaining portions
of this ordinance and to such end of the various portions and provisions
of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the
day of 1976.
