DINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, BY
REPEALING CHAPTER 9 CONCERNING BUSES AND ENACT-
ING A NEW CHAPTER 9, PROVIDING FOR REGULAR FARES
AND FARES FOR THE ELDERLY AND HANDICAPPED; PROVI-
DING A PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING AN IDENTIFICATION
CARD FOR REDUCED FARE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY. THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Chapter 9 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont,
the same specifically including Sections 9-1 through 9-34, inclusive, is
hereby repealed and a new Chapter 9 is hereby enacted to read as follows:

Section 9-1: Schedule of Regular Fares. From
and after October 1, 1975, the following fares
shall be in effect for the Beaumont Transit
System:
Kind of Fare Pate of Fare
1. Regular Fare ------------------------- $.30
2. School Children:
(Attending public or parochial
schools of grades not higher
than public high school; between
the hours of 6:00 A.M. and 4:30
P. M. on regular school days only) ---$.10
3. Half Fare:
(Children between ages of five
and twelve years) -------------------- $.10
(Children under age at five years
when accompanied by a fare -paying
passenger) ---------------------------No Charge
4. Transfers ----------- ----------------- $.05
Section 9-2: Fare for Elderly and Handicapped.
A. Definitions
1. Handicapped: Any individual who, by
reason of illness, injury, age, con-
genital malfunction, or other perma-
nent or temporary incapacity or disa-
bility, is unable, without special
facilities, planning, or design to
use mass transit services or facilities
as effectively as persons who are not
so affected.
2. Elderly: This means any person having
reached or passed the chronological age
of sixty-five (65) years.
B. Reduced Fare

From and after October 1, 1975, those
persons who are elderly or handicapped
as defined herein and obtain the inden-
tification card provided for in this
section, may ride upon the bus line of
the City for one-half (1/2) the regular
fare with no charge for transfers upon
presentation to the bus driver of their
valid identification card.
C. Identification Card
The City Manager shall designate an
agency or agencies from whom elderly
and handicapped persons may obtain an
identification card. The City Manager
shall set a fee for the issuance of the
identification card sufficient to cover
the cost of preparation and issuance.
An application for reduced transit fare
may be obtained from the Beaumont Transit
System, City Traffic and Transportation
office, or other agencies as designated
by the City Manager. Elderly applicants
must furnish proof of age with the com-
pleted application. Handicapped appli-
cants must furnish proof of disability in
the form of a doctor's certificate or let-
ter with the completed application. El-
derly cards shall be permanent and non-
transferrable and handicapped cards shall
be either permanent or temporary based
upon the doctor's certificate.
Section 2_
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of
this ordinance or the application of same to a particular set of persons
or circumstances should for any reason be held to be invalid, such inva-
lidity shall in no wise affect the remaining portions of this ordinance,
and to such end the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.

That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict here-
with are hereby repealed.
