ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 12-19
AND 12-20 OF .THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT)
TEXAS, BY INCREASING THE RATES OF PAY IN ALL
GRADES OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT BY CHANGING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS
IN SOME GRADES; REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING ORDI-
NANCES AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Section 12-19 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas,
is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 12-19:
Department.
Grades and Classifications in Police
All positions in the police department of the City of
Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the follow-
ing grades, each grade having duties of substantially
similar authority, importance and responsibility:
(1) Grade' I. There shall be one hundred fifteen (115)
positions -in Grade I, said positions to include police
officers. The base pay of every officer who has been
in this grade less than six (6) months on October 1,
1974 shall be Seven Hundred Sixty and No/100 ($760.00)
Dollars per month; and the base pay of every officer in
this grade with more than six (6) months service but
not more than eighteen (18) months service on October 1,
1974 shall be Seven Hundred Ninety -Nine and No/100
($799.00) Dollars per month; and the base pay of every
officer in this grade with more than eighteen (18)
months service on October 1, 1974 shall be Eight Hun-
dred Thirty -Eight and No/100 ($838.00) Dollars per month.
(2) Grade II. There shall be fifty-four (54) positions
in Gramme II, said positions to include sergeants. The,..:
base pay of every officer in this grade shall be Nine
Hundred Twenty -Four and No/100 ($924.00) Dollars per
month.
(3) Grade III. There shall be nine (9) positions in
Grade III, said positions to include police lieutenants.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be One
Thousand Twenty and No/100 ($1,020.00) Dollars per month.
(4) Grade 'IV. There shall be eight (8) positions in
Grade Ili, -said positions to include police captains.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be
One Thousand One Hundred.Twenty-Four (1,124.00) Dollars
per month.
(5) Grade V. There shall be two (2) positions in Grade
V, sai positions to include police majors. The base pay
of every officer in this grade shall be One Thousand. Two
Hundred Forty and No/100 ($1,240.00) Dollars per month.
(6) ' Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position in Grade
IV, sai position being assistant chief of police. The
base pay of the officer in this grade,shall be One Thou-
sand Four Hundred Thirty -Four and No/100 ($1,434.00) Dol-
lars per month.

Section 2.
That Section 12-20 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas,
is hereby amended to read as follows:

Department.
Grades and Classifications in Fire
All positions in the fire department of the City of
Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the fol-
lowing grades, each grade having duties of substantially
similar authority, importance, and responsibility:
(1) Grade I. There shall be ninety-six (96) positions
in Gramme T—, said positions to include firefighters. The
base pay of every firefighter who has been in this grade
less than six (6) months on October 1, 1974 shall be
Seven Hundred Sixty and No/100 ($760.00) Dollars per month;
and the base pay of every firefighter in this grade with
more than six (6) months .,srvice but not more than eighteen
(18) months service on October 1, 1974 shall be Seven Hun-
dred Ninety -Nine and No/100 ($799.00) Dollars per month;
and the base pay of every firefighter in this grade with
more than eighteen (18) months service on October 1, 1974
shall be. Eight Hundred Thirty -Eight and No/100 ($838.00)
Dollars per month.
(2) Grade II. There shall be fifty-nine (59) positions
in Gra e I , said positions to include fire prevention
investigator I and fire engineers. The base pay of every
firefighter in this grade shall be Nine Hundred Twenty -
Four and No/100 ($924.00) Dollars per month.
(3) Grade III. There shall be forty-two (42) positions
in Graa e�'Ii; said positions to include fire captains and
fire prevention investigators II. The base pay of every
firefighter in this grade shall be One Thousand Twenty
and No/100 ($1,020.00) Dollars per month.
(4) Grade IV. There shall be twelve (12) positions in
Grade -ti, sa—aid positions to include district chiefs, fire
dispatch supervisor, fire marshal, and training officer.
The base pay of every firefighter in this grade shall be
One Thousand One Hundred Twenty -Four and No/100 ($1,124.00)
Dollars per month.
(5) Grade V. There shall be three (3) positions in Grade

positions to include deputy chiefs. The base pay
of every firefighter in this grade shall be One Thousand
Two Hundred Forty and No/100 ($1,240.00) Dollars per month.
(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position in Grade
VI, sal—I position being assistant fire chief. The base
pay of the firefighter in this grade shall be One Thousand
Four Hundred Thirty -Four and No/100 ($1,434.00) Dollars
per month.
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the pro-
visions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such con-
flict, and Ordinance 74-63 is hereby specifically repealed.

Section 40
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this
ordinance or the application of same to a particular set of persons or
circumstances shall, for any reason, be found to be invalid, such invali-
dity shall in no raise affect the remaining portions of this ordinance,
and to such end the various portions and -provisions of fts ordinance are
declared to be severable.
