ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 12-19
AND 12-20 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS, BY INCREASING THE RATES OF PAY IN ALL
GRADES OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT BY CHANGING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS
IN SOME GRADES; REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING ORDI-
NANCES AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Section 12-19 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas,
is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 12-19: Grades and Classifications in
Police Department.
All positions in the police department of the
City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified
into the following grades, each grade having
duties of substantially similar authority, im-
portance and responsibility:
(1) Grade I. There shall be one hundred fif-
teen 11 positions in Grade I, said positions
to include patrolmen. The base pay of every
officer in this grade shall be Seven Hundred
Sixty and No/100 ($760.00) Dollars per month;
and the base pay of every officer in this grade
with more than six (6) months service but not
more than eighteen (18) months service shall be
Seven Hundred Ninety -Nine and No/100 ($799.00)
Dollars per month; and the base pay of every
officer in this grade with more than eighteen
(18) months service shall be Eight Hundred
Thirty Eight and No/100 ($838.00) Dollars, per
month.
(2) Grade II. There shall be fifty-four (54)
positions in Grade II, said positions to in-
clude sergeants. The base pay of every officer
in this grade shall be Nine Hundred Twenty -Four
and No/100 ($924.00) Dollars per month.
(3) Grade III. There shall be nine (9) posi-
tions in GraHe- III, said positions to include
police lieutenants. The base pay of every
officer in this grade shall be One Thousand
Twenty and No/100 ($1,020.00) Dollars per
month.
(4) Grade IV. There shall be eight (8) posi-
tions in ra e IV, said positions to include
police captains. The base pay of every officer
in this grade shall be One Thousand One Hundred
Twenty -Four and No/100 ($1,124.00) Dollars per
month.

(5) Grade V. There shall be two (2) positions
in Gra eo _V, said positions to include police
majors. The base pay of every officer in this
grade shall be One Thousand Two Hundred Forty
and No/100 ($1,240.00) Dollars per month.
(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position,
inGrade Vim, said position being assistant chief
of police. The base pay of the officer in this
grade shall be One Thousand Four Hundred Thirty -
Four and No/100 ($1,434.00) Dollars per month.
Section 2.
That Section 12-20 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas,
is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 12-20: Grades and Classifications in
Fire Department.
All positions in the fire department of the City
of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into
the following grades, each grade having duties
of substantially similar authority, importance,
and responsibility:
Cl) Grade I. There shall be ninety-six (96)
positions in Grade I, said positions to include
firefighters. The base pay of every fireman in
this position shall be Seven Hundred Sixty and
No/100 (760.00) Dollars per month;;. and the base
pay of every fireman in this grade with more than
six (6) months service shall be Seven Hundred
Ninety -Nine and No/100 ($799.00) Dollars per month;
and the base pay of every fireman in this grade
with more than eighteen (18) months service shall
be Eight Hundred Thirty -Eight and. No/100 ($838.00)
Dollars per month.
(2) Grade II. There shall be fifty-nine (59)
positions in Grade II, said positions to include
fire prevention investigator I and fire engineers.
The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall
be Nine Hundred Twenty -Four and No/100 ($924.00)
Dollars per month.
(3) Grade III. There shall be forty-two (42)
positions in Urade III, said positions to include
fire captains and fire prevention investigators
II. The base pay of every fireman in this grade
shall be One Thousand Twenty and No/100 ($1,020.00)
Dollars per month.
(4) Grade IV. There shall be twelve (12) posi-
tions IM Gee IV, said positions to include
district chiefs, fire dispatch supervisor, fire
marshal, and training officer. The base pay of
every fireman in this grade shall be One Thou-
sand One Hundred Twenty -Four and No/100 ($1,124.00)
Dollars per month.
(5) Grade V. There shall be three (3) positions

in Grade V, said positions to include deputy
chiefs. The base pay of every fireman in this
grade shall be One Thousand Two Hundred Forty
and No/100 ($1,240.00) Dollars per month.
(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position
in Gramme V1, said position being assistant fire
chief. The base pay of the fireman in this
grade shall be One Thousand Four Hundred Thirty -
Four and No/100 ($1,434.00) Dollars per month.
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the pro-
visions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such con-

Section 4.
If any section, subsection, sentence; clause or -phrase of this
ordinance or the application of same to a particular set of persons or
circumstances shall, for any reason, be found to be invalid, such invali-
dity shall in no wise affect the remaining portions of this ordinance,
and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance
are declared to be severable.
