ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE'AMENDING SECTIONS 12-19
AND 12-20 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCE'S OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS, BY INCREASING THE RATES OF'PAY IN ALL
GRADES OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.AND THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT; REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING ORDINANCES;
AND PROVIDING FOR.SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY�OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
That Section 12-19.of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont,
Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Section 12-19: Grades and Classifications in
Police Department.
All positions in the police department of the City
of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the
following grades, each grade having duties of sub-
stantially similar authority, importance and re-
sponsibility:
(1) Grade I. There shall be one hundred eigh=-
teen (118 positions in Grade I, said positions to
include patrolmen. The base pay of every officer
in this grade with less than six (6) months service
shall be Six Hundred Ninety -One and No/100 ($691.00)
Dollars per month; and the base pay of every officer
in this grade with more than six (6) months service
but not more than eighteen (18) months service
shall be Seven Hundred Twenty -Six and No/100($726.00)
Dollars per month; and the base pay of every officer
in this grade with more than eighteen (18) months
service shall be Seven Hundred Sixty -Two and No/100
($762.00) Dollars per month.
(2) Grade II. There shall be fifty-one (51)
positions in Grade II, said positions to include
sergeants. The base pay of every officer in this
grade shall be Eight Hundred and Forty and No/100
($840.00) Dollars per month.
(3) Grade III. There shall be ten (10.) posi-
tions in Grade--IEI, said positions to include police
lieutenants. The base pay of every officer in this
grade shall be Nine Hundred and Twenty -Seven and
No/100 ($927.00) Dollars per month.
(4) Grade IV. There shall be eight (8) posi-
tions in Grade IV., said positions to include police
captains. The base pay of every officer in this
grade shall be One Thousand and Twenty -Two and
No/100 ($1,022.00) Dollars per month.
(5) Grade V. There shall be.two (2) positions

in Grade V'said positions to include police majors.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall
b.e One Thousand One Hundred Twenty -Seven and No/100
($1,127.00) Dollars per month.
(6) Grade VI. There shall be one 'Cl.) position
in Grade VI, said position being assistant chief
of police. The base pay of the officer in this
grade shall be One Thousand Three Hundred and Four
and No/100 (1,304.00) Dollars per month."

That Section 12-20 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont,
Texas, is hereby amended to read as. follows:
"Section 1'2'-20: ' 'Grades 'arid 'C1ass'ificatioris' 'in
Flre Department.
(1) Grade I. There shall be ninety-six (96)
positions in Grade I, said positions to include
firefighters. The base pay of every fireman in
this position with less than six C -6) -months ser-
vice shall be Six Hundred Ninety -One and No/100
($691.00) Dollars per month; and the,base pay of
every fireman in this grade with more than six
(6) months service shall be Seven Hundred Twenty -
Six and No/100 ($726.00) Dollars per month; and
the base pay of every fireman in this grade with,
more than eighteen (18) months service shall be
Seven Hundred Sixty -Two and,No/100 ($762.00) Dol-
lars per month.
(2) Grade''II. There shall be fifty-nine (59)
positions in Grade II, said positions to include
fire prevention investigator I and fire engineers.
The base pay of every fireman in this grade shall
be Eight Hundred and Forty and No/100 ($840.00)
Dollars per month.,
(3) Grade" III. There shall be forty-two (42)
positions In Gra—e III, said positions to include
fire captains and fire prevention investigators
II. The base pay of every fireman in this grade
shall be Nine Hundred Twenty -Seven and No/100
($927.00) Dollars per month.
(4) Grade°IV. There shall be twelve (12) posi-
tions in—G-r—a-de-I-V, said positions to include dis-
trict,chiefs, fire dispatch supervisor, fire mar-
shar.= and training officer. The base pay of every
fireman in this grade shall be One Thousand and
Twenty -Two and No/100 ($1,022.00) Dollars per month.
(5) ' 'Grade' V. There sha11 be three (3) posi-
tions in r_aE_e =il, said positions to include deputy
chiefs. The base pay of every fireman in this
grade shall be One Thousand One Hundred Twenty -
Seven and No/100 ($1;127.00)' Dollars per month.
(6) Grade VI: There shall be one (1) position

in Grade VI, said position being assistant fire
chief. The base pay of the fireman in this grade
shall be One Thousand Three Hundred and Four and
No/100 ($1,304.00) Dollars per month."
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of
such conflict.
Section 4.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of
this ordinance or the application of same to a particular set of
persons or circumstances shall, for any reason, be found to be
invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the remaining
portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions
and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
