Your Committee to whom was referred the Ordinance
providing for the levying, assessing and .collecting 'of taxes for
the year 1909, as shown by the Ordinance,heret.o attached,marked
exhibit "B" and made a part of -this report,be g to -report that it
has duly considered said Ordinance, and contents thereof, and recom-
mend that it be duly passed and adopted by this Council.

AN ORDINANCE,
PROVIDIIM for the levy, assessing and collecting of taxes -
for the year 1909 for the purpose. -of providing a sinking fund to meet
the payment of _the outstanding Bonded Indebtedness of the City of
Beaumont, and to pay the accruing interest thereon; to provide for
the support of the Public Schools -of the City; to repair and im-
prove the streets,alleys,and public squares; to meet the current
expenses of the City of Beaumont;- to -tax occupations and -callings
made taxable by law; to collect a poll tax on all able bodied male.
citizens over 21 and under 60 years of age.
BE IT ORDAMED BY - THE CITY COUNCIL -OF THE CITY OF BEAUdONT :
Sec. 1..
That there is hereby levied and shall be- assessed and
collected for the year 190 the following taxes on all property
situated within the corporate limits of the City of Beaumont,Texas,
made taxable bylaw, to -wit: -
For the purpose of paying General Current expenses of the
City Government, and for General Purposes, Forty (40) cents on
each One Hundred ($10MO) Dollars_ Valuation.
For the support, and maintenance of the Public Free Schools,
Twenty -Five (25) Cents on each one Hundred ($100.00) Dollars. valua-
t ion . .
For, the purpose of repairing and maintaining the streets,
alleys, .public squares, and bridges of the City;: thirty (30)- .Cents
on each One Hundred ($100..00) Dollars valuation.--,-
For
aluation.- -For the purpose of paying the accruing interest, and to
provide a Sinking Fund for the payment of the outstanding bonded
indebtedness o f the City, Fifty-two (52) Cents on each One Hundred
(100,00) Doll -ars valuatSen;i2.
Sec. 2.
That there ie hereby levied and shall be collected on all
occupations and callings on which an Occupation Tax is levied by
the State of Texas, a sum equal to one half of the amount so levied
by the -State of Texas on each respective o ccup at ion or cal -ling.
Sec. 3.
That there is hereby levied and shall be collectel a poll
tax of One ($1000) Dollars on each and every able bodied male
citiaen of this City,between the ages of 21 and 60 years, excepting
and exempting herefrom those who may be exerapt from the payment of
such tax by the Constitution and Laws of the State -oT---Texas.-

This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force zxd
from and. after its passage, its approval by the Mkyor and publica-
tion.
