AN ORDINANCE
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE VACATING
AND CLOSING OF PORTIONS OF CALDWOOD DRIVE AND
EAST DRIVE -ALL IN BLOCKS FOUR (4), FIVE (5),
AND SIX (63, CALDWOOD ADDITION TO THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT, TEXAS,
WHEREAS, the owners of property abutting Caldwood Drive
from a point adjacent to the Southeast corner of Lot Forty -One
(41), Block Four (4) to its junctions with the East line of
Lindbergh Drive, and East Drive from a point adjacent to the
Southeast corner of Lot Twenty -Three (23),. Block Five (5) to
its junctions with the East line of Lindbergh Drive, and East
Drive from a point adjacent to the Southeast corner of Lot Fif-
teen (15), Block Five (5) to its junctions with the West line of
Caldwood Drive, and Caldwood Drive from a point adjacent to the
Southeast corner of Lot One (1), Block Six (6) to its junction
with the East line of Lindbergh Drive, and their intersection
parkways, in Caldwood Addition to The City of Beaumont, have
requested that said portions of said streets be vacated and
closed; and,

WHEREAS, said request has been ref erred to the City Plan-
ning Commission for study, investigation and recommendation to
the City Council as to whether such proposal should be approved,
and the City Planning Commission has thoroughly studied and in-
vestigated said proposal and recommended to the City Council
that the approval of the proposal would be to the best interest
and benefit of the public, and that said proposal should, there-
fore, be approved; and,
WHEREAS, it is to the best interest of the City of Beau-
mont and benefit to the public that said portions of said streets
be vacated and closed;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT, TEXAS:

That Caldwood Drive from a point adjacent to the Southeast cor-
ner of Lot Forty -One (41), Block'Four (4) to its junctions with
the East line of Lindbergh Drive, and East Drive from a point
adjacent to the Southeast corner of Lot Twenty -Three (23),
Block Five (5) to its junctions with the East line of Lindbergh
Drive, and East Drive from a point adjacent to the Southeast
corner of Lot Fifteen (15), Block Five (5) to its junctions with
the West line of Caldwood Drive, and Caldwood Drive from a point
adjacent to the Southeast corner,of Lot One (1), Block Six (6)
to its junction with the East line of Lindbergh Drive, and their
intersection parkways, as shown in red on map or plat of said
Addition attached hereto, be, and the same are hereby, authorized"
to be vacated and closed, and that the title to said vacated and
closed portions of said streets shall revert to and become the
property of the parties entitled thereto, as provided by law.

SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY.PLANNING COMMISSION
HELD AUGUST 6, 1952
BE IT-REMENSERED that the City -Planning Commission of the City of Beaumont, Texas,
'met in special session on the 6th day of August, 1952, with the following present;
C. B. Holland, Chairman
Russell Phelps
Miss Florence McCluskey
Leonard Stone (Proxy)
Absent; C. E. HollarW
P. G. Matthews
Others Present;
J. D. Martin, City Engineer
George Schaumburg
Minutes of the previous meeting held July 2, 1952, were approved on motion made by
Russell Phelps and seconded by Leonard Stone.

Chairman Holland requested that Don Terry, Tax Assessor and Collector for the City
of Beaumont, be added to the mailing list.
Mr. Schaumburg appeared before'the Commission and requested preliminary approval
of North Abry Howell, Unit 1.
Aub tion was made by Miss McCluskey and seconded by Mr. Phelps, that preliminary
approval be given North Mary Howell, -Unit 1.
Mr. Schaumburg requested approval of a replat of Caldwood Addition, Charles
Williams League, changing Lots 1, 2, 13, 14, 23, 24, Block 5, Lots 1, 4, 2.3, 14,
Block 6, and Lots 41 and 42, Blocs 4.
City Engineer Martin stated that the Fire Department and Police Department did.pot
like streets having the same name with a North, South, etc. before it because of
delays in reaching the addresses caused from similarity in addresses.
Mr. Schaumburg told the Commission he would.bave.the street names changed to three
different names.
Notion -was made by Miss McCluskey and seconded by Leonard Stone that the replat of
Caldwood Addition be approved with the understanding that North, South, and..East
Bristol stxeets be changed to three separate names.

Chairman Holland stated that he had received a petition requesting that an alley
in Block 59, Jeff Chaison 2nd Addition be closed.
After a brief discussion, motion was made by Leonard Stone and seconded by Miss
McCluskey that the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the
alley.in Block 59, Jeff Chaison 2nd Addition be closed with the understanding
that it meets with the approval of the City Engineer.
Chairman Holland stated that he had received a petition requesting that the alley
in Block 1, Amaimo Addition be closed. Mr. Holland said this closing had already -
been approved by the City Engineer.
Motion was made by Mr. Phelps and seconded by Miss McCluskey that the Planning
Commission recommend to the City Council that the alley in Block 1, Amaimo
Addition be closed.
It was the consensus of the Commission that a special meeting should be called
and that the Mayor and City Manager, -Mr. Southwell, Mr. Holtkamp, the Fire Chief
and the Police Chief be invited to see if something couldn't be worked out on
street naming.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Chairman Holland.

NOW COMES D. E. Steinman, Jr., and Ethyl L. Sawyer, a widow, individually
and as Independent Executrix of the Estate of 0. B. Sawyer, deceased, as petitioners;
AND petitions the Honorable Council of the City of Beaumont, Texas, to
close certain portions of certain streets in the Caldwood Addition to the City of
Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas.
WHEREAS, D. E. Steinman, Jr., is the owner of Lots One (1) through Forty One
(41) inclusive in Block No. Four (4); Lots One (1) through'Twenty Four (24) inclusive
in Block No. Five (5) and Lots One (1) through Twenty Four (24) inclusive in Block No.
Six (6), all in Caldwood Addition to the City of Beaumont;.and,
I'MREAS, Ethyl L. Lawyer, a widow, Individually and as Independent Executrix
of the Estate of 0. B. Sawyer, deceased, is the owner of Lot No. Forty Two (42) in
Block No. Four (4) of the Caldwood Addition to the City of Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, the City Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a plat of an
Addition to be known as a Replat of Parts of Blocks No. Four (4), Five (5) and Six
(6) of the Caldwood Addition to the City of Beaumont, and said approved plat encom-
passes the above mentioned properties and the streets herein mentioned;
NOW COMES the above named petitioners and pray of the Honorable City Council
to pass an ordinance closing that part of Caldwood Drive from a point adjacent to the
Southeast (SE) corner of Lot Forty One (41) Block Four (4) to its junctions with the
East line of Lindbergh Drive, and East Drive from a point adjacent to the Southeast (SE)
corner of Lot Twenty Three (23) Block Five (5) to its junctions with the East line of
Lindbergh Drive, and East Drive from a point adjacent to the Southeast (SE) corner of
Lot Fifteen (15) Block Five (5) to its junctions with the West line of Caldwood Drive,
and Caldwood Drive from a point adjacent to the Southeast (SE) corner of Lot One (1)
Block Six (6) to its junction with the East line of Lindbergh Drive, and that the above
streets and intersection.parkways be authorized to be closed and vacated, and the
title to said vacated and closed streets shall revert to and become the property of
the owners of the land abutting on said vacated and closed streets, as provided by
law.
