AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE .VACATING AND CLOSING
OF THE FOURTEEN FOOT ALLEY ALONG THE NORTH LINE OF
JESSIS'E. LONGE TRACT IS SHOWN IN VOL. 1602 P. 10
DEED RECORDS.
WHEREAS, the Beaumont Independent School District has
purchased from W. Harry Longe three tracts of land out of the
A. Williams Headright Survey, in Jefferson County, Texas, a
part of -the Cyrus -Haynes homestead on C,ollixrs Ferry Road, which
three tracts of land are described in.the deed from R. A. Heart -
field and others to Jesse E. Longe, dated November 10, 1916, and
recorded in Vol. 160, Page 10, of the deed records of Jefferson
County, Texas, to which deed•andthe record thereof reference is made
for more particular description of said three tracts of land;
and., n
WHEREAS.. there is shown on some of the plats made of said
Longe property and adjacent property an•alleyway fourteen feet
h lvina along the north line thereof, which alleyway
some of the instruments of record relating
to said property; and, -
WHEREAS, the Beaumont Independent School District has
purchased from P.'P. Willis all the lands lying adjacent to said
alleyway on the north, and the Beaumont Independent School Distrix;
now owns all property on both sides of said alley and adjacent
thereto, and said alley serves no ueeEul public purpose; and,
WHEREAS, the Beaumont Independent School District desires
to place a school building on said site, which building when con-
structed will lie across the area of said alleyway; and
WHEREAS,'said petition has been referred to the City
Planning Commission for study, investigation and recommendation
to the City Council as to whether such proposal should be approved,

A RESOLUTION

IKWHEREAS, the Beaumont Independent School District has purchased
from W. Harry Longe three tracts of land out of the A. Williams Headright
Survey, in Jefferson County,_ Texas, a part of the Cyrus Haynes homestead
on Colliers Ferry Road, which three tracts of land are described in the
deed from R. A. Heartfield and others to Jesse E. Longe, dated November
10, 1916, and recorded in Vol. 160, Page 10, of the deed records of Jefferson
County, Texas, to which deed and the record thereof reference is made for
more. -particular description of said three tracts of land; and,
WHEREAS, there is shown on some of the plats made of said Longe
property and adjacent property an alleyway fourteen feet (14,) in width
lying along the north line thereof, which alleyway is also referred to in
some of the instruments of record relating to said property; and,
WHEREAS, the Beaumont Independent School District has purchased
from P. P. Willis all the lands lying adjacent to said alleyway on the
north, and the Beaumont Independent School District now owns all property
on both sides of said alley and adjacent thereto, and said alley serves
no useful public purpose; and,
WHEREAS, the Beaumont Independent School District desires to place
a school building on said site, which building when constructed will lie
across the area of said alleyway; `now, therefore:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Trustees of the Beaumont Independent
School District that the city council of the City of Beaumont be requested
and petitioned to close said alley in the interest of the public free
schools of the Beaumont Independent School District.
The above resolution having been read in full by the secretary,
it was moved by J. R. Beck second6a by Dr C H Walker that
the same be adopted. Whereupon, the question being called for, the follow-
ing members of the Board of Trustees voted, "Aye":
James A. Redmond, J. R. Beck, Homer V. Howell, Benjamin M. Harrison,
Mrs. R. Jack Orrick, Dr. Joe Stoeltje, Dr. C. H. Walker
and the following members voted, "No":
None.
The president announced that the resolution had been adopted.
I, Homer V. Howell, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the
Beaumont Independent School District of Jefferson County, Texas, do hereby
certify that the above and foregoing is a true and correct copy of a
resolution, and the minutes pertaining thereto, adopted by.the Board of
Trustees of the Beaumont Independent School District at a special meeting
held on May 7, 1952, at which a quorum was present and participated, and
that same is of record in the minutes of said Board, in Vol. , Page

SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION
HELD JULY 2, 1952
BE IT REMENBERED that the City Planning Commission of the City of Beaumont, Texas,
met in special session on the 2nd day of July, 1952, with the following present:

J. D. Martin, City Engineer
George Schaumburg
Minutes of the previous meeting held May 29, 1952, were approved on motion made by
C. E. Holland and seconded by C. B Holland.
City Engineer Martin told the Planning Commission that a letter with a resolution
attached to it had been received from the Beaumont City Schools dedicating a.tract
or piece of land being sixty (60) feet in width and extending from French Road and
lying partly in the easterly portion of a two (2) acre tract, in Block B, of the
French Heights Addition, and partly in the tract of land known as the W. J. Blewett
Tract in the Absalom Williams League, for a street across the school property.
Motion was made by C. E. Holland and seconded by Florence McCluskey that the
Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the dedication be accepted.

City Engineer Martin told the Planning Commission that a letter with a resolution
attached to it had been received from the Beaumont City Schools requesting that an
alleyway fourteen feet (10) in width lying along the north line of three tracts of
land out of the A. Williams H eadright Survey, a part of the Cyrus Haynes homestead
on Colliers Ferry Road, be closed.
Motion was made by Leonard Stone and seconded by Florence McCluskey that the
Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the alley be closed.
Mr. George Schaumburg appeared before the Commission and requested final approval
of Thornwood Addition.
Motion was made by C. E. Holland and seconded by Florence McCluskey that final
approval be given Thornwood Addition.
Mr. Schaumburg requested preliminary approval of Russell Place. He stated that
the area would probably be broken down in two or three units later.

nary approval be given Russell Place.

A petition was presented, signed by the Magnolia Improvement Company, requesting
that the portion of Ironton Street running south from the south line of Arthur
Street in Glenwood Addition, and an unnamed street running east from Detroit Street
in Glenwood Addition connecting with the south end of Ironton Street, be closed.
The petition stated that the portion of Ironton Street and the unnamed street lies
within unimproved tract of land and that the streets have never been opened and
are not now in use and are not practical for the development of the territory over
which the streets have been dedicated.
Mr. Schaumburg stated that the Magnolia Improvement Comparq are the sole owners
of this property.
Mption was made by Florence McCluskey and seconded by C. E. Holland that the
Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the portion of Ironton
Street and the unnamed street above described be closed.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Chairman Holland.
