AN ORDINANCE
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION
PURSUANT TO ARTICLE 1268 OF THE REVISED STATUTES
OF TEXAS, 1925, TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS, ON THE 6TH DAY-.OF.MAY, 19521 AT THE TIMES
AND PLACES PROVIDED, AND BY THE PRESIDING OFFICERS
HEREINAFTER DESIGNATED, FOR; THE PURPOSE OF SUBMIT-
TING TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF BEAU-
MONT THE PROPOSITION AUTHORIZING THE BEAUMONT NATURAL
GAS COMPANY, A CORPORATION, ENGAGED IN SELLING
NATURAL GAS IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, TO SELL
OR OTHERWISE DISPOSE OF ITS ENTIRE PLANT AND BUSI-
NESS.TO UNITED GAS CORPORATION, WHICH COMPANY IS
DOING AND HAS AUTHORITY TO.DO A LIKE BUSINESS IN
SAID CITY OF BEAUMONT.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAU-
MONT, TEXAS:-

Section 1.
That pursuant and in obedience to the requirements of Article
1268 of the Revised Statutes of Texas, 1925, and of the provis-
ions of the Charter of The City of Beaumont, a .special election
is hereby ordered to be held in The City of Beaumont, Texas, on
the 6th day of May, 1952, for the purpose of submitting to -the
qualified voters of The City of Beaumont a proposition'approving
or rejecting authority to Beaumont Natural Gas Company, a cor-
poration engaged in selling natural gas in The. City of Beaumont,
Texas, to sell or otherwise dispose of its entire plant and busi-
ness to United Gas Corporation,:which is a corporation doing and
which has authority to do a like business in said City: of Beau-
mont, which proposition shall read as follows, to wit:
PROPOSITION
SHALL BEAUMONT NATURAL GAS COMPANY BE AUTHORIZED
TO SELL OR OTHERWISE DISPOSE OF ITS ENTIRE PLANT
AND BUSINESS.TO UNITED GAS CORPORATION?
Section 2.
That said election shall be held in The City of Beaumont at the
following places, to wit:
French High School Building, Junker School Build-
ing; Central Fire Station; Averill School Building;
St. Anne's School Building; City Hall; David Crock-
ett School Building; Ogden School -Building; Sabine
Pass Fire Station; George Washington Carver School
Building; South Park Elementary School Building;
Giles School Building; Hebert School Building, and
Edwards School.Building.'
That all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 1 shall
vote at the French High School Building; that all voters resid-
ing in County "Voting Precinct No. 2 shall vote at the Junker
School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting.Pre-
tincts Nos. 3, 6 and 7 shall vote.at Central Fire Station Build-
ing; that all. voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 4
shall vote at Averill School Building; that all voters residing
in County.Voting Precincts Nos. 5, 41, 47 and 50 shall vote at
St. Anne's School Building; that all voters residing in County
Voting Precincts Nos. 8 and 10 shall vote at the City Hall Build-
ing; that all voters residing -,in County Voting Precincts Nos. 9
and 11 shall vote at the David Crockett School Building; that all
voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 12 shall vote at
the Ogden School Building; that all voters residing in County Vot-
ing Precinct No. 13 shall vote at the Sabine Pass Fire Station
,
Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No.
14 shall vote at the George Washington Carver School Building;
that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 15 and
42 shall vote at the South Park Elementary School Building; that
all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 16 shall vote at
the Giles School Building; that all voters residing in County Vot-
ing Precinct No. 17 shall vote at the Hebert School Building; that
all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 18 and 19 shall
vote at the Edwards School Building.
Section 3.
The following named persons are appointed presiding judges for
their respective voting boxes with the authority to select and
appoint their own clerks:

Section -4.
That said election shall be held under and shall be controlled by
the provisions of the State laws governing elections, and none
but qualified voters of.The City of Beaumont shall be allowed to
vote'at said election; and the polls shall be kept open from

seven o'clock in the morning until seven o'clock in the evening.
Section 5.
There shall be printed on the ballot to be used in said election
the following:
"PROPOSITION
"SHALL BEAUMONT NATURAL GAS COMPANY BE AUTHORIZED
TO SELL OR OTHERWISE DISPOSE OF ITS ENTIRE PLANT,
AND BUSINESS TO UNITED GAS CORPORATION?"
All voters desiring to vote for the proposition shall" vote on the
voting machine-, "Yes",'and all voters desiring to vote against
the proposition shall vote on the voting machine, "No."
Section 6.
That a copy of this ordinance attested by the City Clerk of The
City of. Beaumont shall serve__ as a call for; and be a proper notice
and proclamation of, said election; and the Mayor is hereby
directed to cause a notice of election, containing a copy hereof,
to be posted at each of the voting places herein designated for
holding said election, at least twenty (20) days before the date
fixed for said election, and shall cause a copy of this ordinance,
attested as aforesaid, to be.published three (3) times within
twenty (20) days.: -next -preceding the date fixed for said election,
the first of said publications to appear at least twenty (20)
days before said election, and the other two publications to'ap-
pear one each week thereafter, saidpublications to be made in
the Beaumont Journal, the official paper of The City of Beaumont,
published in said City, and shall also cause an attested copy of
this ordinance to be served on -leach of the judges and clerks•
herein appointed to hold said election.
Section 7.
That within five (5) days after said election is held the City
Council of The City of Beaumont shall meet and canvass the returns
and officially declare the result of said election.
Section 8.
This ordinance shall take effect and be-in.force immediately upon
and after the passage thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of The City of Beaumont, this
the 15th day of April, A. D. 1952•
