ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING OFFER OF F. L.
BURRUS TO PURCHASE LOTS SEVENTEEN.(17)NINETEEN
-(19) AND TWENTY (20.) IN BLOCK.THREE (3) OF THE
SILVER CITY ADDITION TO THE CITY OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS, AND AUTHORIZING PROPER.CITY_OFFICIALS TO
EXECUTE AND DELIVER.QUITCLAIM DEED TO PURCHASER
FOR SAME.
WHEREAS, on the 27th day of February, 1948, The City of
South Park Independent School District
Beaumont, Plaintiff, and the State of Texas/and the County of Jef-
ferson, as Interveners, recovered a tax judgment against Josephine
Geaury, Martin Geaury, Monroe James, Riley James, Jr., William
James, and the unknown heirs and legal representatives and/or as-
signs of Riley James, Sr., deceased, together with the foreclosure
of a tax lien upon the following property, to wit:
Tract 1: Lot 17, Block 3, Silver City Addition to
the City.of Beaumont, Jefferson County,
Texas;
Tract 2: Lots 19 and 20, Block 3, Silver City Ad-
dition to the City of Beaumont, Jefferson
County, Texas;
and,
WHEREAS, on the 4th day of May, 1948, The City of Beaumont,
South Park Independent School District,
for itself and as Trustee for the State of Texas/and the County of
Jefferson, purchased said above described property at public auction
in satisfaction of said judgment and tax lien; and,
WHEREAS, on the 9th day of June, 1948, C. H. Meyer, Sheriff
of Jefferson County, Texas, made, executed, and delivered unto The
South Park Independent School District
City of Beaumont, for itself and as Trustee for the State of Texas,/
and the County of Jefferson, a tax deed to the above described prop-
erty in satisfaction of said judgment and tax lien, which deed was
recorded in Volume 711, Page 322, Deed Records of Jefferson County,
Texas, on the 21st day of September, A. D. 1948; and,
WHEREAS, on the 17th day of February, A. D. 1953, F. L.
Burrus offered to purchase all of the right, title,,interest, claim,
estate, and demand of The Cityvof Beaumont, for itself and as
South Park Independent School District,
Trustee for the State of Texas/and the County of Jefferson, in the
above described property for the sum of Three Hundred Sixty -Five
($365.00) Dollars; and,
WHEREAS, said F. L. Burrus paid to The City of Beaumont
the said sum of Three Hundred Sixty -Five ($365.00) Dollars in con-
nection with said offer to purchase the above described property;
and,
WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that such sale
is for the best interest of The City of Beaumont and should be con
summated;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAU-
MONT, TEXAS:
That the aforesaid offer to purchase the above described property
is hereby accepted, and the Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby
authorized to execute and -deliver on behalf of The City of Beaumont,
South Park Independent School District,
for itself and as Trustee for the State of Texas/and the Councy of
Jefferson, a quitclaim deed conveying unto F. L. Burrus all`:_of the
right, title, interest, claim, estate and demand of The City of
South Park Independent School District
Beaumont, for itself and as Trustee for the State of Texas/ and the
County of Jefferson, in the above described property derived by
reason of said Sheriff Qs Deed.
