year-1922';forr, the -purpose of -providing; a sirikirig fund -to meet
the -payment-'of--all -the bonded iridebtedh6ss= of'the-City'of
Beaumont; and the payment of accruing .interest -thereon;
providing for -the --support -arid maintenance -of- the -City - of
Beaumont Public Free Schools; -to -pay the --expenses- of the
-
departments of the -City government as named- in said- Ordinaild6"
and. the -general expense -of -the city- governmerit',- and -apportioning
the taxes to- be levied- to --such departments and -purposes'-as set
forth -in-said -Ordinance; providing for -the payment of poll tax
and occupation tax; and declaring an emergency.
BE IP ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY, OF BEAUMONT:

Section 1.
That :there -shall be and is hereby levied, and shall
be assessed and collected:for the year 1922, an ad Valorem
tax of Two Dollars ($2-'0:00.) on. each One Hundred Dollars worth
of property in, .,the. City of Beaumont made taxable by law',
which
said taxes when collected shall be, according to Section
16 of
the Charter of the City of Beaumont, apportioned among the
funds and departments of the city government of the City
of
Beaumont, and for the.purposes hereinafter set forth, as
follows, to wit:-

Section 20 -
That there shall be and is hereby levied, and there
shall be collected on all occupations and callings on which an
occupation tax is levied by the State of Texas., a sum equ91
to one -half -of the amount so levied by the State of Texas
on

each respective occupation" or,.calling-in the City of Beaumont':*
Section 3,
That there shall be and is hereby levied,� and there
shall be collected a poll tax 0 One Dollar ($1:00) on each
and every able-bodied citizen of the'City of Beaumont between
the ages of 21 and 60 years, of whom the State of Texas shall
.require the payment of a poll tax; providedj however, that
those who may be exempt from the payment of such tax by the
constitution and laws of the State of Texas, shall be and are
hereby exempt from the payment of such tax in the City of
Beaumont.
Section- 4'0-
-There being,no o
rdinance in effect levying the taxes
for the year 1922, and the taxes for said year.being due
and payable on October lst., an immediate public emergency
exists"I necessitating the suspension of the rule requiring
ordinances to be read on three separate days before passage.,
wherefore said rule is hereby suspended and it Is enacted that
this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and signature of the Mayor:
