ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LEVYING, ASSESSING AND
COLLECTING OF TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1919 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PRO==
VIDING A SINKIYG FUND TO MEET THE PAYMENT OF THE BONDED INDEBTED -
'NESS OF THE CITY .OF BEATT19ONT AND ACCRUIITG INTEREST THEREON; PRO-
VIDING FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE PTJBLIC--SCHO-OLS-OF--THE-CITY; TO__
REPAIR AND I14PROVE STREETS, ALLEYS AND PUBLIC PARKS; TO MEET
THE CURRENT EXPENSES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT; TO PROVIDE FOR
THE. PURCHASING, MAINTAINING AND OPERATING OF PUBLIC PARKS; TO
PROVIDE A SINKING FUND TO MEET THE PAYMENT OF THE BONDED
INDEBTEDNESS OF THE WATER WORKS SYSTEM AND AN ACCRUING INTEREST
THEREON; TO TAX' OCCUPATIONS AND CALLINGS MADE TAXABLE BY THE
STATE OF TEXAS, AND TO COLLECT ON ALL ABLE BODIED CITIZENS
OVER 21 AND UNDER 60 YEARS OF AGE A POLL TAX, PROVIDING THE
PAYMENT OF SUCH POLL TAX IS REQ7IRED BY THE STATE OF TEXAS, AID
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY..
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY CF BEAUMONT, TEXAS.
SECTION 1. That there is hereby levied and
shall be assessed and collected for the year 1919 the following
taxes on all property situated within the corporate limits of
the City of Beaumont, Texas, made taxable by law to -wit:
For the purpose of paying general current ex-
penses of'the city government and for general purposes, thirty-
five cents (35¢), on each -one hundred dollars ($100) valuation.
�X For -the support and maintenance of public free
schools, fifty cents (500)_" on _each_ one .hundred dollars ($100) -
valuation.
'For the purpose of repairing and maintaining
the streets, alleys and bridges of -the city, twenty- i, _dents
�,_z (.� -} on each one hundred dollars ($100) valuation.
For the purpose of purchasing, constructing,
and maintaining and operating public parks either inside or
pu.tside of the City of Beaumont, two cents (20) on each one
{,�, hundred dollars ($100) valuation.

For the purpose of paying the aoof'uing interest
and to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the bonded indebted-
ness of the City, forty-three cents 4n&,�ight mills ($.438) `on
each one hundred dollars ($100) valuation.
. For the _purpose of paying the accruing interest
and to provide a sinking fund for the paymento`f t.d b-on-6d—in— - -
debtedness of the Mater Works system, thirteen cents and two
mills ($.132) on each one hundred dollars ($100) valuation.
For the purpose o paying for the resurfacing

of all brick streets with uvalde R -Pok asphalt as provided for
by Ordinance:, passed on the lltn day of September 1917 and on
record on pages,l and 2 volume 4 of the Ordinances of the City of
Beaumont, four cents (40) on each one hundred dollars ($100.)
valuation.
For the purpose of paying accruing interest and
providing for a sinking fund for the payment of funding bonds
of the City of Beaumont provided for by Ordinance of tl e City of

For the purpose of,providing for the maintenance
of a public library.in the City of Beaumont, one cent (1¢) on
each one hundred dollars ($1100) valuation.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby levied and -
shall be collected on all occupation and callings on which an
occupation tax is levied by the State.of Texas a sum equal to
ane-•half,(1/2) of the amount so levied by the State of Texas
on each respective ocgpAa _ion__or _calling...= -- — - - =
SECTION 3. That there is hereby levied and
shall be collected a poll tax of one dollar ($1.00) from each
and every able bodied citizen of this city between the ages of
twenty-one (21) and sixty (60) years of whom the State of Texas
shall require the payment of a poll tax, excepting and exempting
herefrom those who may be exempt from the payment of such tax
by the consitution and laws of the State of Texas.

SECTION 4. There being no Ordinance in effect
lev ung the taxes for ttie year 1919, and the taxes for this year
bel, due and payable on October 1st, an imperative public
necessity exists, necessitating that the rule requiring Ordinances
_....,., Vi be read on three separate days be suspended and said rule is
suspended and it is enacted` that this Ordinance shall be in.--f5il1
force from and after its passage and larful publication.
