THE QUESTION THETHER THE CITY COUNCIL SHALL LEVY AN ADDITIONAL
SCHOOL TAX OF NOT MORE THAN 15¢,01? THE ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS

VOTED.FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS AID THE
ERECTION OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS IN THE CITY; NAMING THE TIME AND
PLACE FOR HOLDING SAID ELECTION; APPOINTING OFFICERS THEREOF

GIVING NOTICE THEREOF, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF

Section 1'.
That an el tion shall be held in the City of Beaumont
Texas on the day of June 1918, at which said election
there shall be submitted.to the property tax paying qualified
voters of said ..City the question, Whether the City Council of -
Beaumont shall levy an additional tax of not more than 15¢ on
the One Hundred Dollars worth of property within said City for
the maintenance of -the public free schools, and the erection
.of school buildings in the City, in addition to the tax of -25¢__ _
on the One Hundred Dollars, already voted..
Section 2.
That said election shall be held at the following
places to -wit: -
First Ward at Central Fire Station.
Second' Ward at City Hall.
Third Ward at Jefferson County Court House.
Section 3. ,
The following named persons are appointed election
Judges in their respecting wards, with authority to select
and appoint their clerks:- — - -
First Tard H. D. Fletcher Presiding Judge.
A. J. Kaulbach Assistant Judge.
Second Ward H. C. Schwaner Presiding Judge.
P.. A. Dowlen Assistant Judge.
Third Ward - Kyle Ward Presiding Judge.
J. 01)Oorr Sr. Assistant Judge.
Section 4.
That said election shall be held under the provisions
of the State Law Governing elections, and only qualified voters
who a--re-property tax payers of -the City of Beaumont shall be
allowed to vote at said election, and the p otts shall be kept
open from 8 O'clock in the morning until. 7 O'clock in the emening.
The tickets voted at said election shall be headed
"School Tax Election", and there shall be written or printed under
said heading
It For additional,school tax of not more than 150 on the
One Hundred Dollars worth of property and 11.
pAgainst additional school taxAef 15¢ on the One Hundred
Dollars worth of property."
And each voter in favor of said additional -tax shall
erase that part of said ballot .reading "A.gainat additional: school
tax"etc, and all voters against said additional school tax shall
erase that part of said ballot reading " For Additional Tax " etc.
And a majority of the votes cast shall decide for or against said
Addotional Tax. Section 5.
That this Ordinance shall be published at least on4r &-41/
week for at least twenty days, priWto the date of holding said
ai
election, in newspaper of general circulation, which has been
continuously and regularly published for a period of not less than
on,o year in Jefferson County Texas. In addition to said publication
a copy of this Ordinance signed by the Mayor and attested by the
City Secretary of the City of Beaumont, shall be posted up at each
of the places designated for holding said election, and such
publicationf of said Ordinance, and posting of said copies at
said. voting places shall serve as proper notices of said election.
Section 6.
The fact that the present tax rate of 25¢ on the One
Hundred Dollars worth of property is not sufficient for the
maintehance of the public free schools and the _erection -of --
school buildings in the Cit creates an imperative public
necessity requiring the suspension of the rule requiring Ordinances
to be read at three regular.:meetings, and it is ordered that
said rule be suspended and that this Ordinance take affect and
be in full force from and after its lawful passage and publication(
