Entitled an Ordinance ordering an eleo be held
the City of Beaumont, Texas, to determine if. bonds of said Ci

shall be issued for the purpose of making certai pu licm-
provements, to -wit:- the acquiring and' improving of lands,
either within or without the limits of the City of Beaumont
for public parks;naming the time and places of holding said
election; appointing officers--the--reof; and providing zqr the
manner of holding said -election, and the giving of notice
thereof.
BE IT ORDAINED BY TIS CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY•OF
BEAMFTONT�TEXAS : -
Section 1.
That an election shall be held in the .City of Beaumont,
Texas, on the day of au, 4.D.1917',at which election
the following proposition shall be -submitted: -
"Shall the City Council of the City of Beaumont, -
"Texas,be authorized to issue bonds of said City ,here-
"inafter designated as 'Park Bonds', in the sum of One
"Hundred Thousand Dollars (100,000.00),
" said bonds to be paid serially in from One 1) to - -
"forty (40) years, in equal annual installments of
"Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars (62,500.00) per year
"after the date of issuance,bearing interest from date
"at -the rate of five (5%) per cent per annum, payable_
"semi-annually; and to levy a tax su�ficient to pay the
"interest on said bonds,'and the serial installments o
"principal thereof as each shall respectively mature; and
the proceeds of the sale thereof /,a used for the pur-'
pose of making.certain ;.nermanent,�improvements, to -wit: -
"The acquiring and improving of'lands,either within or
"without the limits of the City of Beaumont,for public
"parks".
Section 11.
That said election shall be held at the following places,
to -wit: -
First Ward -------------------Central Fire Station.
-Second
Third Vtiard-----=------------- Jefferson County Court House.
Section 111.
The following named persons are appointed the presiding
Judges in thei=r respective wards,`with the authot:t�ry to select
and arpoint their -clerks: -

Section 1V..
That said. election shall be held under the provisions of
the State law governing.elections and only qualified voters who
are property tax payers of the City of Beaumont shall be allowed
to vote at said election,.and the polls shall be kept open from
-,eight o'clock in the morning until seven o' clock, in the evening.
At said election, all voters desiring to support the proposition
to acquire and improve lands either within or without the limits
Of the City of.Deaumont for public parks,ete., shall have print-
ed on their ballots the words: -"For the issuande of One Hundred
Thousand ($100.,000.00) Dollars bonds for the purpose of making
certain parmanent public improvements, to -wit: the acquiring and
improving of lands, either within or without the limits of the
City of Beaumont for public parks";,and at said election, all
voters not desiring to support the proposition to issue bonds
to acquire and improve lands either within or without the limits
'of - the City of -Beaumont for public parks, shall have printed on
their ballots the words: -"Against the issuance .of One Hundred
Thousand. (,100,000.00) Dollars bonds for the purpose of making
certain permanent public improvements, to -wit: the acquiring and
impr _ving- oma- lands, ei-ther---within -o-r- yr -thout the ---l- m ts- of - the---

Section V.
That this ordinance shall be published mk at
least once I each -week, for'at least.thirty days prior to
the date of holding said election, in a newspaper of general
circulation, which'has been continuously and regularly 'published
for a period of not less than one year, in Jefferson County,Texas—
In addition to said publication, a copy.of this ordinance,
signed: -°by the Mayor and attested by the Seer - et,-xy of the City
of Beaumont, shall be posted up at each of the places designated
for holding -said- election,at least thirty days prior to the
date of holding said election. And said publication of said
ordinance.and posting up of copies of said ordinance at each of
the voting places, shall serve as proper notice of said election.

health of thecitizens of the'.ci-Ly of'Bea-umont, creates an

meetings.

City.
We,your Ordinance Committee, to w,,om was referred
the attached ordinance,calling an election to determine whether
or not the city council shall be authorized to issue lark Bonds
in the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dollars,for the purpose of
acquiring and improving lands either within or without the limits
of the city of Beaumont, for public parks, beg to -report that we
have carefully investigated same, and recommend that said ordi-
nance be adopted under a suspension of the rules requiring ordi-
nances to be read at three regular meetings.
