Providing for the levying, assessing and. collecting of taxes
for the year 1917, for the purpose of providing a sinking fund to
meet the payment of the bonded indebtedness of the city of Beaumont,
and for the accruing interest thereon; providing for the support
of the public schools of the city; to repair and improve the
streets, alleys and public squares; to me6tthe current expenses
of the city of Beaumont.; to provide for the purchasing, constructing,
maintaining, operating and owning of public parks; to provide a
sinking fund to meet the payment of the bonded indebtedness of the
water works system, and of the accruing --interest thereon;- to--tax-
occupations and callings made taxable by the State of Texas; and
to collect on all able bodied male citizens, over twenty one years
and under sixty years of age, a poll tax.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1.*That there is hereby levied and shall be assessed and
collected for the year 1917, the following taxes on all property
situated within the corporate limits of the city of Beaumont,Texas,
made taxable by law, to -wit;
For the purpose!of paying general current expenses of the city
government, and for general_purposes .2372 (twenty three cents,
seven and two tenths mills) on each one hundred, dollars valuation.
For the support and maintenance of public free schools, twenty-.
five cents (.250 on each one hundred do>llars valuation.
For the purpose of repairing and maintaining the streets, alleys,
public squares and bridges of the city;' twenty eight cents, nine
and five tenths -mills N -2895) -on -each one- hundred dollars -valuation. -
For the purpose of paying the accruing interest, and --to provide
a sinking fund for the payment -of the bonded indebtedness of the
city faf-ty five oents,five and two tenths mills, (94552) on each
one hundred dollars valuation.
For the purchasing, constructing, maintaining, and operating of
public free parks, either inside or outside of the city of Beaumont,
two cents (.02;-) on each one hundred dollars valuation.
For the purpose of paying the accruing interest and to provide a
sinking fund for the payment of the bonded indebtedness of the
water works system, thirteen cents, six mills, (.136), on each one
hundred dollars valuation,
For the purpose of paying for the resurfading of all brick streets
with Uvalde Hock asphalt, as provided for by ordinance passed
on the. 11th day of September, 1917, and of record on pages 1 and 2,
vol.49 ordinances of the, city of Beaumont, three cents, six and
seven tenths mills (.0367), on each one hundred dollars valuation.
For the purpose of maintaining a 0arnegie public library -in -the
city of Beaumont, one cent, five and four tenths mills (.0154)
on each one hundred dollars valuation.
SECTION 2 That there is hereby levied and shall be collected on
all occupations and callings on which an.ocoupation tax is
levied by the State of Texas, a sum equal to one half of the amount
so levied by the State of Texas, on each respective -occupation,
or calling.
SECTION 3. That there is hereby levied and shall be collected a
poll tax 'of one (@1.00) dollar from each and every able bodied male
citizen of this city between the ages of 21 and 60 years, excepting
and exempting herefrom those who may be exempt from the payment of
such tax .by the constitution and laws of the state of Texas,

SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effec't and be in full force
from and after its passage and lawful publication..
