AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING A BUILD ING CODE FOR THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT, REGULATING THE'ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION, EN-
LARGEMENT, ALTERATION ,'REPAIR, MOVING, REMOVAL, CON-
VERSION, DEMOLITION; OCCUPANCY, EQUIPMENT, USE, HEIGHT,
AREA AND MAINTENANCE OF.BUILDINGS OR STRUCTURES IN THE
CITY OF ,BEAUMONT; PROVIDING`.FOR THE ISSUANCE '-OF PERMITS
AND COLLECTION OF FEES THEREFOR; DECLARING AND ESTAB-
LISHING FIRE DISTRICTS; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE
VIOLATION THEREOF, AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND
PARTS OF -ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT ,THEREWITH.

BE IT ORDAINED BY -THE -CITY OF BEAUMONT,'TEXAS:
Section 1.
That the Southern Standard Building Code, 1957-1958 Revision,
a copy of which has this day been -.exhibited to and approved by the
City Council of The City of Beaumont, be,, and the same is hereby,
adopted and declared operative as the Building Code of The City of
Beaumont, with the exception, however, of Section 114 of said Code
dealing with violations and penalties, and Section.107.4 of said Code
setting forth schedule of.Permit Fees.
Section 2.
Fees.
Any person desiring a building permit shall at the time of
filing an application therefor; pay to the Building Official a fee as
required in this -Section. The fees to be paid for permits shall be
as follows:
New Fees For Building Permits -
(a) On all new frame residential construction and additions
to existing residential frame buildings other than'necessary repairs
to upkeep of existing buildings, one (1¢):per square foot.
Frame garages, porches:;• and breezeways, one-half (1/2¢) cent
per square foot,
On all new brick veneer residential construction and additions
to existing residential brick veneer buildings other than necessary
repairs to upkeep,of existing building, one and one half (1-1/2¢) cents
per square foot.

Brick veneer porches, garages and breezeways, three fourths
(3/4¢) cent per square foot.
Square foot, area to be determined by outside dimensions of
building. _
(b) On new commercial construction.
First $100000 valuation, $3.00.per thousand.
Next $10,000 valuation, .$2.50 per thousand.,
Next $30,000 valuation, $2.00- per thousand.
All over first $50,000 valuation, $1.50 per ahousand.
Valuation. to be determined at $10.'00 per square foot..on the.
outside dimension on all type .of :commercial construction.
Additions to existing .commercial buildings other.than repairs
necessary to upkeep of existing bulding.figured on -same basis as !
above.
(c) Permits for repairs.
Minimum fee $2, 00.

(d) Permits for House Moving, per square foot outside
dimension, with $5.00 minimum.
Other Fees.
(a) Annual fee. for -.,required inspection, of, theater ,buildings,
and all other place of public assembly or,public amusement, the sum
of $2.00.
The United States of *America or any of its agencies shall be
exempt from the payment of any fee for any building permit or certi-
ficate of occupancy for buildings -owned by the government.
Section 3.
Any person, firm;; corporation- or agent who .shall violate a
provision of said Code, or fail to ' comply 'the'rewithl or with any of
the requirements thereof, or who shall erect, construct, alter, demol:
ish or move any'structure, or has erected,'constructed, altered, re-
paired, moved, or demolished a building or structure'in violation of
a detailed statement or drawing submitted and approved thereunder,
shall be.guilty of a misdemeanor. Each such person --shall be. deemed

guilty of a separate offense for each and every da:y'orportion' there-
of during which. any vi.ol.at-ion,.of any, of"th6 provisions of said Code
is committed, -or continued, and upon conviction of any such violation
such person shall be punished by'd fine of not less than Five ($5'.00)
Dollars nor more than Two Hundred:'($200.00.).-Dollars for each offense.
Section 4.
All ordinances or- parts .'6f ordinances in ..conflict. with said
Building Code are hereby repealed, and the ordinance known as the
Building Code passed by the City'Qouncil.on May 3: 194'9'is hereby ex-
pressly repealed.
Section 5.
The City Clerk.of-The' City of Beaumont is. hereby 'authorized,
directed and empowered to insert at the appropriate place therein -a
certificate -to the effect that said Bu±idIng-C-Ode is an official pub-
lication'of building laws., ordinances and resolutions passed and
adopted by the City Council of The City of Beaumont, and that said
publication in book formofsaid building ordinance, laws and res,olu--
tions affecting The-City.of Beaumont,, by authority and under direction
of the City Council of The. City of Beaumont, is to beandbecome ef-
fective,,ap the building laws and ordinances of said City
