AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ROUTE FOR U. S. STATE HIGHWAY
69, 96 AND 287 IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, AND
GRANTING JEFFERSON.COUNTY AUTHORITY TO ACQUIRE RIGHT
OF WAY FOR SAID HIGHWAY, AND.REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING
RESOLUTIONS AND ORDINANCES.
WHEREAS; the people of Jefferson County voted bonds for
the improvement of certain highways in Jefferson County, and parti-
cularly for the purpose of right of way for certain highways in
Jefferson County;, including U. S. Highway 691 96 and 287, a part
of which said highway is within the city limits of The City of
Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, the Commissioners' Court of Jefferson County has
requested that the City designate a route for said Highway 69, 96
and 287, and hasrequested the permission of The City of Beaumont to
acquire the right of way within the ,said City limits for said high-
way; and,
WHEREAS, Jefferson County will acquire the necessary right
of way without cost or obligation on the part of The City of Beau-
mont, and the City Council is of the opinion that it is to the best
interest of the City to so designate the :_route. for said highway
and to grant permission to Jefferson County to 4 squire said right
of way within the city limits of Jefferson County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
The route for U. S. Highway 691 96 and 287 in The City of
Beaumont be as hereby approved and as described as follows:
BEGINNING at the L.N.V.A. Canal near the northern
limit of The City of Beaumont;
THENCE southeasterly following generally the exist-
ing location of U. S. Highway 691 96 and 287 to a
point between French Road and Blackmon Road in The
City of Beaumont, the exact location to be determined
by the State Highway Department;
THENCE continuing southerly to intersect U. S. High-
way 90 (Interstate) at a point in the vicinity of 16th
Street in The City of Beaumont '
Section 2.
The County of Jefferson be and is hereby granted permission
to acquire, at its own cost, right of way for the construction of
Highway 69, 96 and 287 within The City of Beaumont without cost to
the City in any manner and without obligation on the part of The
City of Beaumont to perform any services whatsoever.
Section 3.
Any previous order, ordinance, or resolution inconsistent
or in conflict with this ordinance be and is hereby specifically
repealed and held for nought, and any policy which may have been
previously adopted by The City of Beaumont shall be and is hereby
amended to conform with this ordinance.
