AN ORDINANCE,
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING -FOR THE LEVYING,
ASSESSING AND COLLECTING 'OF AD VALOREM AND OTHER
TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1956 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PAYING
THE GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSES OF THE CITY OF
B�AUMONTI AND PROVIDING A SINKING FUND TO MEET THE
PAYMENT OF ALL BONDED INDEBTEDNESS OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT AND THE PAYMENT OF ACCRUING INTEREST
THEREON; PROVIDING FOR THE'PAYMENT OF OCCUPATION
TAX, AND PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE.CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.

That there.shall, be and is hereby levied and shall be a s-
sessed and collected for the year 1956, for municipal purposes
only, an ad valorem tax of One Dollar and Seventy-two Cents ($1.72)
on each One Hundred Dollars worth of property located within the
present city limits of The City of Beaumont, made taxable by law,
which said taxes when collected shall be for the purpose herein-
after set forth as follows, to wit:
For the General Fund . $1.26
For the purpose of paying the
accruing interest and to provide
a sinking fund for the payment of
the entire bonded indebtedness of
The City of Beaumont .46
Section 2.
That there shall be and is hereby levied and there shall be
collected on all occupations and callings on which an occupational
tax is levied by the State of Texas, a sum equal to one half of the
amount so levied by the State of Texas, on each respective occupa-
tion or calling in The City of Beaumont.
Section 3.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or por-
tion of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconsti-
tutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such section, sub-
section, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion shall be deemed a
separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding shall
not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof.
