TO THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND
MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
CITY OF BEAUMONT. TEXAS
The South Park Independent School District respectfully represents that it has
purchased and acquired the title to Blbcks Nos. 7 and 8, of the Columbus :Cartwright
Addition, and Block No. 20, of College Acres Extension, which property is bounded
on the north by Milam Street, on the east by Seventh Street, on the south by Blanchette
.Street, and on the west by Eighth Street. On this tract of land the South Park Inde-
pendent School District is preparing to construct an elementary school building and
lay out the playground and other facilities incident thereto. Upon the map of the
Columbus :Cartwright Addition there appears a street 60 feet in width between Blocks
Nos: 7 and 8, extending to Block No. 20 of College Acres Extension. This cul de sac
serves no useful purpose, is not opened past Milam Street, and would be very trouble-
some to the South Park Independent School District in the planning of improvements
upon that tract of land. Since the South Park Independent School District has acquired
title to the property on all sides of this stub of a street, and since it serves no useful
public purpose, the South Park Independent School District respectfully petitions
your honorable body to vacate, abandon, and close said stub of a street.
Respectfully submitted,
SOUTH PARK INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL DISTRICT i

Mrs. Willie J. Brockman
City Manager
Beaumont, Texas
.Dear Mrs.' Brockman:
I am enclosing, for the consideration of the Planning Com-
mission and the City Council, a petition by the South Park Independent
School District to vacate and close a stuf_a str et between Blocks
Nos. 7 and 8, of the .Columbus CartwrigAddition to the .City of
Beaumont. This stub of a street exists only between said two blocks
and extends to Block No. 20, of College Acres Extension. It is not
opened across Milam Street to the north., and it is quite evident that
it serves no useful public purposes, 'as reflected by the enclosed map.
The South Park Independent School`Distr* t has purchased Blocks
Nos. 7 and 8, of the Columbus Cartwrig. Addition, and also Block No. 20
of College Acres Extension, these three b ocks being in one body of land
with the above-mentioned cul de sac extending down between Blocks Nos.
7 and 8. T,he South Park Independent -School District is preparing to con-
struct an el'ementary school building, lay out playgrounds and facilities
incident thereto, and this street is seriously in the way. Since it does
not go anywhere and does not serve any useful purpose, the South Park
Independent School District is requesting the City Council to vacate and
close the street.
Your prompt attention to the petition will be greatly appreciated.
Very truly yours,
J B. Morris
