AN ORDINANCE
PROVIDING FOR THE LEVYING, ASSESSING AND COLLECTING OF
AD VALOREM AND OTHER TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1942 FOR THE PURPOSE OF
PROVIDING A SINKING FUND TO 1iET THE PAYMENT OF ALL BONDED INDEBTED-
NESS . OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, AND THE PAYIVTENT .OF ACCURING INTEREST
THEREON: PROVIDING FOR TIDE SUPPORT AND EfflAINTENANCE OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS; TO PAY THE EXPENSE OF THE DEPARTIKENTS
OF THE CITY GOVERNI'IENT, AS NAtTj D IN SAID ORDINANCE, .AND THE GENERAL
EXPENSE OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT; _ AND; APPROTIONING THE TAXES TO BE
LEVIED TO SUCH DEPARTMENTS LI PURPOSES AS SET FORTH IN.SAID ORDIN-
ANCE; PROVIDING FOR TEE PAYMENT OF OCCUPATION TAX; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COiIflVIISSION OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be assessed
and collected for the year 1942, for municipal purposes only, an ad
valorem tax of One and 91/100 Dollars (y1.91) on each One Hundred
Dollars worth of property located.within the.present city limits of the
City of Beaumont, made taxable by law, which said taxes when collected
shall be, according to Section 16 of the Charter of the City of Beaumont,
apportioned _among the funds and departments of the city government of
the City of Beaumont and for the purposes hereinafter ser forth as
follows, to -wit :
For the General Fund
For the support and maintenance of
Public Library
For the support and maintenance of
Charity Hospital
For the purpose of paying the accruing
interest and to provide a sinking fund
for the payment of the entire bonded in-
debtedness of the City of Beaumont for
all purposes, except the school bonded
indebtedness of the Beaumont City Schools
For the purpose of paying the accuring
interest and to provide a stinking fund
to retire said indebtedness when due,
incurred in the issuance of Library Site
Purchase Notes -, Series "A"
For the purpose of paying the accruing
interest and to provide a sinking fund
to retire said indebtedness when due,
incurred in the issuance of Street Im-
provement Promissory Notes - Series "B"
For the purpose of paying the accruing
interest and to provide a sinking fund
to retire said indebtedness -when due,
incurred in the issuance of Street Im-
provement Promissory Notes r, Series "C"
For the purpose of paying the accuring
interest and to provide a sinking fund
to retire said indebtedness when due,

Section 2
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be
assessed and collected for the year 1942, a. school maintenance
tax of Sixty-four Cents (64�) - on each One Hundred Dailars worth
of property lying and being situated -within the present limits
of the Beaumont Indep e dent School District; and there shall be
and is hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected for the
year 1942, a tax of -Twenty-six Cents (26�) on each One Hundred
Dollars worth -of said property to take care of the interest and
sinking fund on the school bonded -indebtedness -of the City of
Beaumont within the present limits of the Beaumont Independent
School District.
Section 3
That there shall be and is hereby levied and there 'shall.
be collected on all occupations and callings on which an occupa-
tion tax is levied by the State of Texas, a' -sum equal to one-half
of the amount so levied by the State of Texas; on each
oceuaption or calling in the City of .Beaumont.
Section 4
There being no Ordinance in effect levying the taxes for the
year 1942, and the taxes for said year will soon become dire and pay-_
able, an immediate public emergency exists, necessitating the sus-
pension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on three separate
days before passage, wherefore; said rule is hereby suspended and it
is enacted that this Ordinance shall -be in full force and effect from
and after its passage and publication.,

ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS -VALUATION OF ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE
PRESENT LIMITS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, AND A TAX OF TlffhmY-
SIX CENTS (Jp.26) ON EACH ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS VALUATION OF ALL TAX-
ABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE PRESENT LIMITS OF THE BEAUMONT INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL DISTRICT, LEVIED AND:ORDERED COLLECTED BY AN ORDINANCE PASSED
BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ON THE 4TH DAY OF
AUGUST, A. D. 1942, FOR THE PURPOSE OF PAYING THE INTEREST AND
CREATING A SINKING FUND FOR THE BOND ACCOUNTS THEREIN MENTIONED,
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COD1MISSION OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
That the tax of Seventy-eight Cents (6-.78) on each one
hundred dollars valuation of all taxable property within the limits
of the City of Beaumont heretofore levied -for interest and sinking
fund accounts,- other than school bond accounts, and ordered collected
by an'Ordinance passed by the City Commission of the City.of Beaumont
on the 4th day of August, -1942, be and the same is hereby apportioned
among the various interest and sinking funds as follows:

Section 2.
That the tax of Twenty-six Cents (4.26) on each one hundred
dollars valuation of all taxable property within the present limits
of the Beaumont Independent School -District heretofore levied for in-
terest and sinking fund accounts and ordered collected by an ordinance
passed on the 4th day of August, A. D. 1942, be and the same is hereby
approtioned among the various school bond interest and sinking funds as
follows;

Section 3.
That the City Tax Assessor and --Collector is hereby instructed
to pro -rate the said sums so assessed according to.the-provisions of
this Ordinance, and to so present his statement and report t'o the
Director of Finance that said -officer may be able to place all
collections made under said tax to the credit of the proper' fund,
and that the same may not be diverted or used for any other purpose.
.:Sect ion 4.
The fact that no apportionment has been made of the assessJ3
ments levied to provide for the interest and sinking fund for the
bonded indebtedness of the City of Beaumont, creates an imperative
public emergency necessitating the suspension of the rule requiring
ordinances to be read on three separate meetings before their passage,
wherefore, said rule is hereby suspended and this' ``rdinance shall
take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication.

tive vote of all members of the City Coranission.
