Jefferson County, Texas, has acquired a tract of land con-
sisting of approximately Fifty-eight acres (58), which pro-
perty is adjacent to the corporate limits of the City of
Beaumont as said limits now exist; and
WHEREAS, the said College District is now constructing
on said tract of land a modern junior college and said tract
of land will constitute the building site for all the build-
ings of the said college as well as the campus and the foot-
ball stadium; and
WHEREAS, -there are at the present „time no inhabitants;
of said tract of land or territory but itis to the best
interest of the said College District to have the college
campus and grounds included within the corporate limits.

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Lamar Union
Junior College District of Jefferson County, Texas, has:
by resolution duly passed by the said Board of Trustees,
petitioned and requested the City Commission of the City
of Beaumont to extend the city limits; of the City of Beau-
mont so as to include the said college campus grounds and
to annex the same to the City of Beaumont; and
WHEREAS, the said College District has already arrang-
ed to install and construct all necessary sewer lines and
water lines at the cost and expense of the college and
college district, and has agreed not to loom to the City
of Beaumont for the construction of such water lines and
sewer lines or to be reimbursed by the city for the cost.

jacent to the'Beaumont Independent School District and
therefore said territory should be incorporated in the
city limits of the City of Beaumont for municipal purposes -
only and not for school purposes;
AN ORDINANCE,

ANNEXING LAMAR COLLEGE CAMPUS PROPERTY HEREINAFTER
DESCRIBED TO THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, JEFFERSON. COUNTY,
TEXAS, FOR MUNICIPAL PURPOSES ONLY,AND NOT, FOR SCHOOL,
PURPOSES.. AND EXTENDING THE BOUNDARY LIMITS - OF SAID CITY
SO AS TO INCLUDE THE SAID COLLEGE CAMPUS PROPERTY WITHIN
SAID CITY LIMITS, PROVIDING HOWEVER, THAT VIRGINIA STREET
ADJACENTTO SAID PROPERTY SHALL NOT BE INCLUDED WITHIN
THE CITY LIMITS BUT THAT THE CITY LIKITS SHALL EXTEND
ONLY TO THE NORTH BOUNDARY LINE.OF,VIRGINIA',STREET, GRANT-
ING TO ALL PERSONS.WHICH ARE NOW OR MAY HEREAFTER BECOME
INHABITANTS OF THE TERRITORY HEREBY ANNEXED. -ALL THE RIGHTS
AND PRIVILEGES OF OTHER CITIZENS AND BINDING SAID INHABITANTS'
BY ALL.OF THE ACTS, ORDINANCES, RESOLUTIONS AND REGULATIONS; -
OF THE SAID.CITY: PROVIDING FURTHER THAT THE CITY OF.BEAUMONT
SHALL NOT.BE REQUIRED TO INSTALL WATER AND SEWER LINES IN SAID

NOW.. THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY
COM ISSION OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT
That the boundary limits of said city be and they are
hereby extended, and the City of Beaumont does hereby annex the
following described territory and property, to -wit;
Beginning at the southeast corner of Block 2 La
Salle Addition to the City of Beaumont, Texas, said
point being on the north line of East Virginia Avenue;
Thence eastward along the said north line of East
Virginia Avenue as now established through the La
Salle Addition produced fifty (50) feet to iron.pipe
for•the beginning,corner of this description;
Thence north 0 degrees 36 minutes west along a
line parallel with and fifty ( 50) feet distant from
the east line of Block 2 La Salle Addition or the
west line of'Moore Street as now established in the
City of Beaumont six hundred fifty-four and nine tenths
(654.9) feet more or less to iron pipe for corner;
Thence north 89 degrees 54 minutes east five hun-
dred twenty and two tenths (520.2) feet more or less:
to iron pipe for corner;
Thence north 0 degrees 6 minutes east four hundred.

pipe for corner, said point being on.the south line of
east Lavaca Avenue as now established in the City of
Beaumont;
Thence north 89 degrees 56 minutes -,east along said
south line of East Lavaca Avenue one hundred forty-eight
and five tenths (148.5) feet more or less:to iron pipe
for corner;
Thence south 38 degrees 27 minutes east along the
west line of Isaac Garrison 1.89 acre tract four hundred
nine and six tenths (409.6) feet more or less to iron pipe
for corner;
Thence north 52 degrees 48 minutes east along the
south line of Isaac Garrison 1.89 acre tract two hundred
twenty-two and one tenth (222.1) feet more or less to iron
pipe for corner; said point being on the west line of the
new Beaumont -Port Arthur Highway;
Thence south 38 degrees 37 minutes east along the
west line of the new Beaumont -Port Arthur Highway ten and
seven tenths (10.7) flet more or less to iron pipe for
corner;
Thence south 38 degrees 53 minutes east along the
west line of the new Beaumont -Port Arthur Highway one
thousand (1000) feet more or less to iron pipe for corner;
Thence south 39 degrees 9 minutes east along the west
line of the Beaumont -Port Arthur Highway nine hundred twenty-
three and one tenth (923.1) feet more or less to iron pipe
for corner; said point being on the north line of East Vir-
ginia Avenue, the said north line of East Virginia Avenue,
being parallel with and -sixty (60) feet north of the south
line of East Virginia Avenue as now established through.the
Lamar Addition to the City of Beaumont;

Thence south 89 degrees 17 minutes west allong
the said north line of East Virginia Avenue two
thousand six hundred and eleven (2611) feet more or
less to.the place of beginning."
Provided, however, that no part of Virginia Street is
included within the territory hereby annexed but the south boun-
Bary line of the territory hereby annexed shall be along the north
boundary line of Virginia Street.
The territory hereby incorporated within the city limits
of the City of Beaumont constitutes the college campus and grounds
of the Lamar Union Junior College and the boundary limits of the
City of Beaumont are hereby extended so as to include said college
campus and grounds as described above within the city limits of
the City of Beaumont for municipal purposes only and not for school
purposes and the inhabitants of said territory shall hereafter be
entitled to all the rights and privileges of other citizens of the
City of Beaumont and they shall be.bound by the acts, ordinances,
resolutions and regulations of said city.
The Board of Trustees of the said college initiated the
movement to have the college grounds included within the city
limits of the City of Beaumont by enacting a resolution request-
ing annexation, and there being no inhabitants at present of the
territory annexed the same is annexed on the petition of the
college authorities as evidenced by said resolution and upon the
agreement and understanding between the Trustees of said college
on the one hand and the -City Commission on the other hand that
the College District will install at its own cost and expense all
of the sewers and water lines required in the annexed territory
and that the City of Beaumont will not be called upon to reimburse
the College District therefor.
