Providing for the levy, assessing and collecting of
taxes for the year 1912,, for the purpose of providing a sink-
ing fund to meetthe payment of the bonded indebtedness of
the City of Beaumont to pay ,the_` accruing interest -thereon;, to
provide -for the support of the Public Schools of the city; to
repair.and improve the streets, alleys, and public squares,to
meet the current expenses ofz.the Gity of Beaumont, to provide
for, the purchasing, construction, maintaining, operating and
owning -of public -parks., to tax,occupations and callings made
taxable by the State of Texas -and to.collect a -poll tax on all
able bodied -male citizens over,21 and -under 60 years of age.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL.OF.THE. CITY OF BEAUMONT:
SECTION 1.
That there is hereby levied and shall be assessed and
collected for the year 1912 -the following taxes on all property
situated within the corporate limits, of the City of Beaumont,
Texas, made taxable by law, to. -wit:
For the purpose of paying General Current Expenses of
the City Government and -for General purposes, forty .(40) -cents
on each one hundred ($100.00) dollars valuation.
For the support and maintenance of the Public Free
Schools,, -twenty-five (25) cents on each -one hundred ($100.00)
dollars valuation.
For the purpose of -repairing and maintaining the
streets, alleys, public squares and bridges of the City, thir-
ty (30) cents on each one hundred.(�00.00) dollars valuation.
For the purpose of paying the accruing interest, and
to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the bonded-::''
indebtedness of the city, fifty=two (52) cents on each -one 11un-
dred($100.00) dollars valuation._
For the purchasing, -construction, maintenance, and
operation of public parks, either inside"or!.outside of the City
of.Beaumont, three (3) cents on each one,.hiindred ($100.00)dol-
Lars valuation.
SECTION 2.
_ That. there -is . hereby levied and shall be- collected on
all occupations *and callings ion which an Occupation Tax is lev-
ied by the State of Texas_, o(, -,sum equal to one-half the .amount
so levied by the State of Texas on each respective occupation
or calling.
SECTION '3.
That there is hereby levied and sh a collected a
poll tax of one ($1.00) dollar -from each an ry'able bodied
male citizen-of"this city between_ the#ages I and 60 years,.
excepting and .exempting herefroif -those- w -may be " exempt from
the payment of�`'-_such. tax,by the Constitution and -Laws of the -
State of Texas:.,
SECTION 4.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force
from and after its passage and lawful publication.
Passed this the 7th day of May, A. D. 1912.
