ie, your Finance Committee, to whom was
referred the attached ordinance providing for the
levying, assessing and collecting -.of taxes for the
year 1914, beg to report that after carefully con-
sidering the ordinance and reviewing the financial
condition of the city, we think it advisable, and
so recommend, that the levy for General current
expenses and cit; government and for general purposes
be changed from .21V on -the A100 to .32� on the 0100,
and that the levy for the purpose of paying accrued
interest and providing a sinking fund for the bonded
indebtedness of the city of Beaumont be changed from
.52V to .41v. :pith these changes we recommend
that the attached ordinance be adopted.

A.N ORDINANCE
Providing for the levging, assessing, and collect-
ing of taxes for the year 1914, for the purpose of providing
a sinking fund to meet the payment of a bonded indebtedness of
the City of Beaumont, and for the accruing interest thereon;
providing for the support of the public sbhools of the city;
to xq.pair and improve the streets, alleys, and public squares;
to meet the current expenses of the city of Beaumont; To provide
for the purchasing, constructing, maintaining, operating and owning
the public parks; to provide a sinking fund to meet the payment
,of the bonded indebtedness of the Tiatdxa1,Vorks System, and of the
accruing interest thereon; to tax occupations and callings made
taxable by the State of Texas, and to collect on all able bodied
male citizens over twenty-one and under sixty years of age.
BE IT ORDAINED BY TITE CITY COUNCIL OF T7E CITY OF BEATTIAONT:
That there is hereby levied and shall be assessed
and collecte-9 for the year 1914, the 2ollowing taxes on all
property situated within the corporate limits of tLle City of Beaumont,
Texas; -,i made taxable by law, to -wit: -
For the -)urpose of paying general current expenses
of the city government, and for -general purposes, thirty two(32)
cents on each one hundred (100.00) Dollars valuation.
For the support and maintenance of public free
schools, twenty-five (25) cents on each one hundred (100.00)
valuation.
For the purpose of repairing and maintaining the
streets, alleys, public squares and. bridges of the city, thirty -
(30) cents on each one hundred (100.00) valuation.
For the purpose of paying the accruing interest,
and to provide a sinking fund for the pyament of the bonded, indebted-
ness of the city, Forty-one (41)'cents on each one Hundred (100.00)
valuation.
For the purchasing, constructing, maintenance and
operating of public parks, either inside or outside of the City
of Beaumont, three (3) cents on each one hundred (100.00) valuation.
For the purpose pf paying the accruing interest
and to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the bonded
indebtedness of the fflater Works System, nineteen (19) cents on
each one hundred Dollars (100.00) valuation.
That there is hereby levied and shall be collected
on all occupations and callings on whih an occupation tax is
levied by the State of Texas, a. sum equal to one-half the amount
so levied by the State of Texas, on each respective occupation
or calling.

male citized of this city between the ages of 21 and 60 years,
excepting and exeppting herefrom those who may be eiiempt from
the payment of such tax by tie constitution and laws of the State
of Texas.
