ORDINANCE NO.(� I Q
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 12-19:
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS,
BY INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN GRADE
I OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY; RE-
PEALING ALL CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; AND PRO-
VIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section I.
That Section 12-19 of the Code of Ordinances of Beau-
mont, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12-19. Grades and classifications in
P° ice epartment.
"All positions in the police department of the
City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified
into the following grades, each grade having
duties of substantially similar authority,
importance and responsibility;
"(1) Grade I.There shall be one hundred
seven positions in Grade I, said positions
to include patrolmen. The base pay of every
officer in this grade shall be five hundred fifty
($550.00) dollars per month.
"(2) Grade II. There shall be forty-one (41)
positions in Grade II, said positions to include
sergeants and detectives. The base pay of every
officer in this grade shall be six hundred twenty-
five ($625.00) dollars per month.
"(3) Grade III. There shall be seven (7) positions
in Grade III, said positions to include lieutenants.
The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be
six hundred seventy ($670.00) dollars per month.
11(4) Grade IV. There shall be five (5) positions
in Grade IV, said positions to include captains.
The _base pay of.every officer in this grade shall be
seven hundred twenty-one ($721.00) dollars per month.
11(5) Grade V. There shall be two (2) positions in
Grade.V—sail—positions to include inspectors. The
base pay of every officer in this grade shall be
eight hundred fifty-two ($852.00) dollars -per month.
"(6) Grade VI. There shall be one (1) position
in Grade VI, said position being assistant chief
of police. The base pay of the officer in this
grade shall be nine hundred ninety-eight ($998.00)
dollars per month."

Section II.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed to
the extent of such conflict.
Section III.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ordinance or the application of same to a particular
set of persons or circumstances shall, for any reason be found
to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the
various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared
to be severable.
PASSED by the City Council this the 25th day of
November, 1969.
